When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 108

**Silent Roads Remember by Sawyer**

**Chapter 108**

As soon as Lena was unceremoniously ushered out of the hospital, her first instinct was to reach for her phone. She needed to talk to someone—someone who might understand, or at least someone she could vent her frustration to. With trembling fingers, she dialed Elaine’s number, her heart racing with a mix of anger and desperation.

“Hello, Lena?” Elaine’s voice came through the line, laced with a hint of surprise.

“Elaine!” Lena’s voice rose, sharp and piercing, filled with an urgency that made Elaine pause.

Elaine sensed the tension, a palpable edge to Lena’s tone that made her hesitate for a fleeting moment. Still, she decided to feign ignorance, hoping to gauge the situation before revealing too much. “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

“This is all your fault! You knew that Chiara was Mrs. Goodman all along, didn’t you?” Lena’s words exploded from her lips, each syllable dripping with accusation.

Elaine blinked, taken aback by the revelation. “Wait, you didn’t know? I honestly thought you were in on it…”

In that moment, Lena’s fury mingled with a deep sense of betrayal. She felt a surge of hatred toward Elaine, but there was little she could do to change the situation. Overwhelmed, she sank to the cold floor, tears streaming down her face. “I’m done for. It’s all over…” Her voice was barely a whisper, choked by sobs that seemed to shake her entire being.

Elaine’s heart sank as she listened to Lena’s despair. It was clear that something had spiraled out of control. “What happened, Lena? Please, tell me,” she urged, her voice softening in concern.

“Mr. Goodman found out I was the one who drugged Chiara,” Lena said, her voice trembling with fear. “Do you have any idea how terrifying Mr. Goodman is? He completely destroyed Francis, and there was blood everywhere. Mr. Goodman is a monster… He’s absolutely terrifying!”

The image of Titus, a man she had always seen as composed and in control, suddenly morphed in Elaine’s mind into something far more sinister. She struggled to reconcile the violent image Lena painted with the man she knew.

“Mr. Goodman told me to leave Halinston for good!” Lena cried, her voice rising with a mix of indignation and despair. “But this is my home! Why should I be the one to leave? You were the one who told me to do it, so why am I the one paying the price?”

Elaine’s realization hit her like a cold wave. Things had escalated far beyond what she had anticipated. “What… What exactly did you tell Titus?” she stammered, her voice shaking slightly.

“Of course, I told him the truth. I said you were the one who told me to do it. Elaine, you pushed me into making such a huge mistake, and I’m not going down without dragging you with me,” Lena snapped, her eyes blazing with a mix of fury and desperation.

“Have you lost your mind?” Elaine’s voice was sharp, laced with fear and anger that made her heart race. The thought of Titus knowing she had influenced Lena was terrifying.

Just then, Sharon, Elaine’s assistant, reached out and grasped her arm, shaking her head slightly as if to say, “Stay calm.”

In that moment, a flicker of hope ignited within Elaine. They had already crafted a cover story, and Lena lacked any solid evidence to back her accusations. Her heart began to settle, the panic subsiding slightly.

Sharon leaned in, her voice a low whisper. “Don’t bother arguing with her. Be careful; she might be recording this.”

Elaine’s eyes hardened, but a note of resignation crept into her voice as she said, “Lena, I think there’s been a misunderstanding.”

Lena froze, confusion washing over her. “What misunderstanding?”

“I did pay you to keep tabs on Titus, I’ll admit that. But drugging Chiara? That was all you. I never told you to do that. You can’t just shove the blame onto me just because you screwed up!” Elaine shot back, her tone firm.

Lena’s expression shifted from anger to shock. “You’re making this up! You were the one who told me to…”

Elaine interrupted, her voice steady. “Alright. Since you claim that I ordered you to do it, then prove it. What proof do you have that I was behind it? Did I give you the drugs you used?”

Lena’s breath caught in her throat. She had procured the pills from a bartender at a bar, paying a hefty price for them. But deep down, she knew that it was Elaine who had planted the idea in her mind in the first place.

Elaine had once shared a link to a sensational story about a jealous woman who secretly drugged the wife of the man she desired. The husband, upon discovering his wife with another man, ended up leaving her for the schemer. The moment Lena had read that, the seed of an idea had taken root in her mind, and Elaine had quickly deleted the message, claiming it was sent by mistake.

Yet, the idea had already taken hold. When Lena learned that Chiara was in the hospital and that Titus was there caring for her instead of being at work, the notion spiraled into something uncontrollable.
