When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 118

**Silent Roads Remember by Sawyer**

**Chapter 118**

As Adele stood in the courtyard, her eyes caught a glimpse of Titus emerging from the house. She couldn’t resist the urge to throw him a sideways glance, a playful smirk dancing on her lips.

“What, did they drive you out? Couldn’t stand it in there?” she quipped, her tone light and teasing.

Titus, ever the good sport, picked up a hose and joined her in tending to the vibrant flowers that adorned the yard. For Adele, there was no greater joy than nurturing her blossoms; they were her passion, her solace, her world.

In fact, she owned thousands of acres dedicated to flower farming, each petal a testament to her dedication and love for nature.

Titus chuckled, a grin spreading across his face as he watched her work. “You really nailed it,” he complimented, genuinely impressed by her green thumb.

Adele shifted her attention to a different flower, her gaze cool as she assessed him. “So, did you get it sorted?” she asked, curiosity lacing her words.

Titus hesitated for a brief moment, his brow furrowing slightly before he replied, “Pretty much. Should be done soon.”

Adele’s expression remained inscrutable, but her eyes conveyed a depth of understanding that words could not capture.

“But as your mother, I’ve got to give you a word of advice,” Adele continued, her voice steady yet warm.

Titus raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “I’m listening,” he replied, leaning in slightly.

“Marriage and love can’t stand too much calculation. Only sincerity can make it last,” she advised, her eyes locking onto his with a sincerity that was hard to ignore.

Titus smirked, a hint of mischief in his tone. “For me, there’s always a way to figure out the most optimal solution for everything.”

Adele arched her brows, opting not to engage in a debate. Instead, she smiled softly, “All I can do now is wish you the best.”

Titus narrowed his eyes playfully. “Thanks.”

After they finished watering the flowers and Titus washed his hands, he turned to head back inside. Adele wiped her hands with a handkerchief, her gaze lingering on him as he walked away, shaking her head with a mixture of amusement and concern.

At the dinner table, Titus immediately sensed something was off with Chiara.

He discreetly raised an eyebrow, casting a glance at Debby, then smirked and lifted his glass, tapping it gently against Charlie’s. “Here’s to you,” he announced, his voice light.

Charlie froze, caught off guard, his eyes widening as he turned to Titus.

After a moment, he took a sip, then leaned closer to Adele, his voice low. “Is something up with Titus today? He looks pretty cheerful.”

Adele sipped her soup, her eyes flicking toward the man who was clearly enjoying himself, and she offered a slight smile. “Just keeping himself entertained,” she replied, her tone casual.

Charlie still seemed puzzled, glancing back at Titus. “Feeling pretty good today?” he asked, genuinely curious.

“It’s alright,” Titus replied, his tone relaxed, as if nothing was amiss.

Charlie couldn’t help but add, “I’ve got a buddy who’s an OB-GYN specialist. He’ll be back in the country next month. Why don’t you take your wife for a checkup?”

Like many grandparents, Charlie longed for the pitter-patter of tiny feet, dreaming of the day he could dote on grandchildren.

Titus raised an eyebrow, stealing a glance at Chiara, who was engrossed in a conversation with Debby. “That won’t be necessary,” he replied firmly.

“You’re not exactly a kid anymore, so how come…” Charlie started, his concern evident.

“Relax, I’m not about to let the Goodman family line end with me,” Titus replied with a hint of defiance.

Charlie was momentarily speechless, taken aback. ‘Seriously, what kind of answer is that? Wait, really? He means it?’ he thought, surprise washing over him.

Charlie’s irritation dissipated as he regarded Titus with a serious expression. “Don’t forget what you just said. Goodman Group’s a huge legacy. You’ve got to have someone to carry it on.”

He thought to himself, ‘Boy or girl, doesn’t matter. Just make sure I get a grandkid, alright? Otherwise, who’s going to take over this huge family business?’

After dinner, Debby busied herself, stuffing their trunk with an array of goodies.

Titus glanced at the overflowing trunk and sighed, rubbing his forehead in exasperation. “Grandma, we can buy whatever we want. You really don’t have to go to all this trouble,” he said, trying to reason with her.

Without warning, Debby whacked him on the calf with her cane, catching him completely off guard.

His face contorted in pain; that cane was not just for show; it was solid wood, and she wielded it with surprising force. “Ouch! What was that for? You’re not exactly young, you know. Why are you still hitting me?” Titus complained, half-laughing, half-wincing.

“This is all for Chiara and your father-in-law. You don’t get any,” Debby snapped, her tone as fierce as her swing.

Titus’s lips twitched in disbelief. “Is that really necessary?”

“Ha! You deserved that smack ages ago, you blockhead,” Debby shot back, unyielding.

Titus raised an eyebrow at Chiara, who stood nearby, quietly observing. The moment their eyes met, she quickly averted her gaze, a hint of guilt flickering across her features.

Is she feeling guilty? Titus pondered silently.

After exchanging farewells with Debby and the rest of the family, Chiara climbed into the car.
