Chapter 175
Chiara once again spent a sleepless night. She woke up early the next morning, helped Ryan wash up, and carried him downstairs. Ryan was also super excited to see so many people up and about so early.
After making the rounds in everyone’s arms, he finally settled back into Titus’s embrace. Charlie shot Titus a jealous look. “I just don’t get it. How come my grandson is so attached to him?”
Adele gave him a sideways glance. “Well, they’re father and son. Wouldn’t you expect them to be close?”
“That little rascal’s my son too, you know! Does he ever stick to me like that?” Charlie grumbled.
Adele looked at Charlie and Ryan, her tone dry. “Must be something off in your genes.”
“My genes? Why don’t you say your son’s the one with the mutation?” Charlie retorted.
“I’ve got eyes, you know. I can see for myself,” Adele replied.
Charlie glanced up again, but Adele’s sharp comeback left him completely speechless. Chiara hadn’t slept a wink, and there were faint shadows under her eyes.
“Chiara, did you not sleep well last night?” Debby asked.
Chiara nodded. “A little. I guess I’m just not used to it yet.”
Debby nodded. “Why don’t you take Ryan home today?”
Adele didn’t object, but she just kept staring at Ryan’s little face, as she could never get enough of looking at him. After breakfast, Debby suggested having the driver take Chiara and Ryan home.
“I’ll take them,” Titus volunteered.
Chiara glanced at Titus and said straightforwardly, “No need, Grandma. Eunice’s already waiting outside to pick us up.”
Debby looked at Titus, who’d just been snubbed, and nodded. “Alright then. Take care driving back.”
“Alright, we’ll get going now. Ryan, say goodbye to everyone,” Chiara said.
Ryan still looked at Titus with longing, but this time he didn’t put up a fuss. He just pouted a little and waved his tiny hand. “Bye-bye…” Ryan said softly.
Debby’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “Bye-bye.”
Adele watched them leave, reluctant to see them go. She let out a sigh, and when she turned and saw Titus standing nearby, she felt a lump in her throat. “Go stay in your own place,” Adele said.
Charlie raised an eyebrow, sizing Titus up, and snorted. “Look at you, always causing trouble. If you hadn’t screwed things up back then, your mom, your grandma, and I wouldn’t have had to go through the pain of being apart from our family. You’re really something, aren’t you? Just go, don’t hang around here making
things awkward!”
“Wait up, honey!” Charlie called, then rushed after Adele.
Debby took her sweet time turning around to look at Titus. Titus turned to her too. “Got something on your mind?”
Debby snorted with a little huff. “I’ve got a couple of things to tell you, but are you even going to listen?”
Titus smirked. “Just say it.”
“Don’t mess with her,” Debby said.
“Grandma, I’m afraid I can’t do that,” Titus replied after a brief pause.
Debby wasn’t surprised. She just gave him a knowing look. “What’s the deal with that celebrity?”
Titus chuckled softly. “Didn’t you already guess?”
Debby shot him a glare. “Don’t tell me you’re not worried about getting tangled up with another Elaine?”
At the mention of Elaine, Titus’s expression turned dark. It had been two years since the news of Elaine.
Titus felt nothing when he thought of her; he didn’t even know whether she was alive or dead, and he couldn’t bring himself to care. The only reason he hadn’t cut her loose entirely was Serenity. Without that tie, after everything she had done behind his back, he would have removed her from his life long ago. He hadn’t ended her, but he had left her thoroughly ruined.
“Absolutely not,” Titus said, his voice steady and full of conviction.
Yvonne was smart and ambitious, but all her drive was focused on making it big in her career. Now that Titus had put her on a pedestal, she was more terrified than anyone of losing it all.
That was what set Yvonne apart from Elaine. “I will leave now,” Titus said.
Debby watched and called after him, “Whatever you’re thinking, that’s your business. But don’t make her do things she hates. If I catch you pulling those dirty tricks again like before, you’ll have me to answer to!”
Titus paused, glancing back with a smirk. “You really think I’d try?”
“Don’t even think about it!” Debby snapped.
Eunice came to pick up Chiara and ran into Paul. Paul could only watch helplessly as the two of them drove away. He waited until Titus showed up before finally getting out of his car. Paul greeted, “Mr. Goodman.”
Once Titus got in the car, he shut his eyes, trying to catch a break. Truth was, neither he nor Chiara had gotten any sleep last night.
Sharing a roof with her again, and even ending up holding her close, had messed up his head. Every cell in his body was fired up, screaming for her.
While Chiara was away, he missed her, sure, but his longing was just a dull ache. But the moment she came back, his desire flared up all over again. He wanted her; wanted her like he was losing his mind.
Titus slowly opened his eyes, his voice low and a bit hoarse. “Handle things with Yvonne.”
Paul blinked, glancing at the rearview mirror. “Handle it?”
“Tell her to name her terms,” Titus said.
Paul wasn’t really surprised by Titus’s decision, but he still couldn’t help asking out of curiosity. “But Mr. Goodman, didn’t you say you were actually serious about dating Ms. Watson?”
“I wanted to be serious, but with the wrong person, it just doesn’t work,” Titus replied.
‘Man, that’s such a classic Playboy line,’ Paul thought.
“Mr. Goodman, are you trying to get Mrs. Goodman back?” Paul asked.
“What do you think?” Titus replied.
Paul was a bit speechless. “Of course I’m rooting for you, but you’ve already dated someone else. I’m just worried she might not take it so well.”
Titus gave a wry smile, turned to look out the window, and said quietly, “Honestly, I kind of hope she would mind.”
