When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Eunice was in high spirits, animatedly chatting with Chiara as she recounted all the adventures and experiences she’d had during her two years abroad. Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she described the places she’d visited and the people she’d met.

“So, what do you think of my ex-boyfriend? Handsome, right?” Eunice teased, holding up a photo with a playful grin.

Chiara glanced at the picture and laughed softly. “He’s definitely easy on the eyes. And you still ended things with him?”

Eunice gave a mischievous shrug. “You know me too well,” she said with a cheeky smile.

Chiara smiled helplessly. Having grown up together, she knew Eunice inside out. While Chiara tended to invest deeply in one relationship, Eunice was almost the opposite. She had enjoyed a few innocent crushes in high school, and by the time she reached college, she had a habit of switching boyfriends frequently.

“Men don’t exactly stick around for long with me,” Eunice joked, her tone light but honest.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door.

“Eunice, are you and Chiara still awake?” Helen’s voice called softly from the hallway.

“Yeah, Mom. What’s up?” Eunice replied, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

“Mr. Goodman is here. He says he came to take Chiara home,” Helen informed them.

Both girls froze for a moment, exchanging a quick, knowing look. Eunice jumped out of bed and hurried to open the door.

“Titus is here?” she blurted, surprise evident in her tone.

Helen nodded, glancing at Chiara. “We just got back and saw him waiting outside. He said he came to take Chiara home, so we invited him in to wait for you. Were you two about to turn in?”

“Yeah, Mom, please ask him to leave,” Eunice insisted firmly.

Helen liked Chiara a lot, but she wasn’t thrilled about Titus arriving so late and still being allowed into the Murphy household. Her attitude was clear.

“Chiara is Mr. Goodman’s wife, after all. Shouldn’t you check with her husband before letting her stay over?” Helen said pointedly.

Eunice shot back, “Why? Just because she’s wearing a ring doesn’t mean she can’t make her own decisions.”

Helen sighed, shaking her head, but Chiara was already moving toward the door.

“Helen, I think I should head home,” Chiara said softly.

Eunice, clearly upset, grabbed Chiara’s arm. “Chiara, please don’t go…”

Chiara gently patted her head and whispered, “Don’t make things harder for your parents.”

Eunice huffed, reluctant but resigned, and followed her downstairs.

In the living room, Kendrick was chatting with Titus. When they heard the footsteps, both men looked up.

Titus’s gaze lingered on Chiara as she descended the stairs, her movements slow and deliberate. He offered a faint smile, setting his cup aside.

“Mr. Murphy, sorry to trouble you. I’ll take her home now,” Titus said politely.

Kendrick nodded. “Alright, drive safe.”

Titus gestured toward Chiara. “Come on, it’s late. Time to go.”

Eunice rolled her eyes, holding tightly to Chiara’s arm, clearly reluctant to let her friend leave.

“Chiara, how can you just leave me now? It’s been two years since we last hung out like this. Don’t you feel bad abandoning me?” Eunice pouted dramatically.

Chiara wished she could spend the entire night catching up with Eunice, but she knew it wasn’t going to happen.

“Hey, you’re back now,” she soothed softly. “We’ll have plenty of time to hang out.”

Eunice huffed again, still not happy, then shot an annoyed glance at Titus.

Even Eunice, who had dated many guys, had to admit that Titus was undeniably charming. If she hadn’t known how long Chiara had had a crush on him, Eunice might have even caught feelings herself.

“Honestly, who would’ve thought Mr. Goodman is such a clingy husband? If I told anyone, they’d never believe it,” Eunice joked.

Helen gave her a stern look. “Alright, enough nonsense.”

Titus grinned playfully, his eyes never leaving Chiara’s gentle face. “So, Ms. Murphy, can I have my wife back now?”

Eunice was momentarily speechless.

She thought to herself, ‘So what if you’re her husband? Show off much?’

Chiara glanced at Helen and Kendrick, speaking softly, “Helen, Kendrick, see you next time.”

They replied warmly, “Sure. Be safe getting home. Come visit whenever you want.”

Chiara smiled and nodded. “I will.”

Eunice was still reluctant to let her go. “Let me walk you out,” she offered.

Chiara didn’t object, letting Eunice cling to her.

“Okay,” she said quietly.

Titus furrowed his brow slightly as he watched the two girls, arms entwined and clearly close.

“Chiara, I’ll pick you up after work tomorrow, and we can grab dinner,” Eunice said brightly.

Chiara nodded. “Okay, I’ll call you when I get off.”

“Great. Oh, and is Heather free? It’s been ages since I last saw her. Let’s all hang out,” Eunice suggested.
