When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 73

**TITLE: Silent Roads Remember by Sawyer**

**Chapter 73**

Titus had a knack for speaking uncomfortable truths, and today he was spot on about one thing: women, it seemed, were insatiable beings, perpetually yearning for more, never quite knowing when to draw the line.

Elaine felt a rush of emotions flood her as she recalled the moment he had so callously rejected her, the abrupt click of the phone hanging in the air like a bitter reminder of her vulnerability.

“I want you by my side all the time!” she exclaimed, her voice tinged with frustration. “You promised me you’d make everything easier, but honestly, nothing has gone my way at all!” The words poured out of her, a desperate attempt to make him understand the depth of her disappointment.

Titus remained composed, that infuriating calmness etched across his face. He tilted his head slightly, his expression unreadable, and asked, “Just what would it take to really satisfy you?”

A flicker of hope ignited within Elaine’s chest. “If Chiara wants a divorce, why won’t you just agree? I wish you’d say yes, just for me. Would you?” Her heart raced as she uttered the words, each syllable laced with longing.

Titus regarded her with a smile that danced on the edge of mockery, his lips curling in a way that suggested he was both amused and intrigued.

“So, getting a divorce is all it takes to finally give you what you want?” he inquired, his tone almost playful.

Elaine nodded eagerly, her eyes wide with anticipation. “Yes,” she breathed, as if the word itself could unlock the door to her desires.

He held her gaze for a moment longer, the silence stretching between them like a taut string. Then, with a voice that was soft yet teasing, he continued, “But what about me? If you get everything you want, then what do I get out of it?”

Her heart raced as she locked eyes with him, her nerves on edge. “Titus,” she whispered, her voice barely above a breath.

“I said I’d make your life easier, but that’s not really my call,” he replied, his tone dripping with indifference. “Honestly, do I look like the kind of guy who will just toss aside my own fun for someone else’s wishes?”

In that instant, a harsh reality dawned on Elaine; he wasn’t just playing games. Titus had no intention of leaving Chiara.

“But why? What does she have that I don’t?” Elaine’s voice rose in desperation. “You don’t even love her, do you?”

His gaze turned frigid, the warmth that once lingered in their conversations evaporating in an instant. “That’s not something you get to ask,” he replied, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Tears welled in Elaine’s eyes, and she felt the weight of her heartbreak. “What makes her better than me? Is it just her family? Does she love you as much as I do, Titus? You’ve always known how much I care about you, so why won’t you ever let me in?”

Titus absently played with his cigarette, his sharp gaze cutting through her like a blade.

All the ways she just didn’t measure up flashed through his mind. Sure, the differences weren’t monumental, but in his eyes, Elaine was outclassed in every conceivable way.

“Does she love you the way I do? I’ve loved you for so many years. Is she even close?” Elaine pressed, her voice trembling with raw emotion.

Titus’s eyes darkened, his expression still unreadable. He thought, ‘Compared to her? Honestly, Chiara’s more than a match. When it came to loving me, Chiara surpassed everyone.’

With a sudden lack of interest, Titus stubbed out his cigarette, the gesture signaling an end to their conversation.

“I’ll have Paul take you to the airport. And let me say this one last time: don’t just show up and bother me again,” he stated coldly, his words slicing through the air like a winter chill.

Elaine’s eyes widened in disbelief, her heart sinking. “You! You’re really kicking me out?”

His smile was devoid of warmth, a chilling remnant of what once was.

“It’s for your own good,” he replied, his voice void of empathy.

Panic coursed through Elaine, her face turning ghostly pale. “I’m not leaving!” she shouted, her defiance ringing hollow in the silence that followed.

Titus shot her a glare so cold it made her breath catch in her throat. In all the years they had known each other, he had never looked at her with such disdain, let alone treated her this way.

“Why? Why, Titus?!” Elaine cried out, her voice breaking.

In her mind, she replayed the countless moments he had treated her with kindness, always giving her what she asked for. What had gone wrong between them?

It’s Chiara. Yes, it has to be her. It’s all Chiara’s fault. Everything is because of her!

“So you’re really never going to divorce her?” Elaine asked, her voice a mix of desperation and disbelief.

Titus didn’t even bother to respond to what he deemed a pointless question.

“No matter what she does, you really won’t divorce her, will you?” Elaine pressed once more, her heart pounding in her chest.

His icy gaze remained fixed on her. “Elaine, I’ve put up with a lot from you, but don’t think you can play those games on me.”

Confusion clouded her thoughts, yet she heard each word he spoke with painful clarity.

“Chiara is my wife. She carries my name, so that makes her mine. Listen up, this is your first and only warning. Don’t you dare get any ideas about her,” Titus said, his tone chillingly serious.

Elaine’s expression shifted as she processed his words, and then she broke down completely, the dam of her emotions bursting forth.

“Even if she got together with another guy, you’d still defend her, wouldn’t you?!” she shouted, her voice filled with anguish.

Titus had never considered Chiara to be someone who would betray him. If anything, he trusted her unwavering loyalty and steadfast love more than ever.

Even if Chiara was disappointed in him now, even if she didn’t love him the way she once did, she wasn’t the type to cheat or stray.

Titus knew Chiara better than anyone, yet the thought of her getting close to another man ignited a furious spark within him; he couldn’t help it.
