When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 75

**Silent Roads Remember by Sawyer**
**Chapter 75**

Titus’s lips pressed into a thin line at the mere thought of all that alcohol. A cold, derisive snort escaped him, a sound laced with contempt. “Get out,” he commanded, his tone sharp and unyielding.

Lena, perceptive as ever, recognized the tension radiating from him. Her voice was soft, almost soothing as she replied, “Mr. Goodman, let me pour you some water.” Without waiting for a response, she hurried over to the bar, her movements quick and purposeful.

Settling back into the couch, Titus furrowed his brows, irritation etched deeply into his features. The weight of the night pressed down on him, heavy and suffocating.

“Mr. Goodman, here’s your water,” Lena offered gently, placing the glass in front of him.

This time, Titus didn’t even bother to respond verbally. He merely gestured dismissively with his hand, a clear indication that he wanted her to leave him be.

Lena hesitated for a moment, her gaze lingering on him, searching for signs of the man she knew beneath the surface. But as he remained silent, she turned away, her heart heavy as she walked off.

Titus picked up the chilled glass and gulped down half of its contents in one swift motion, but the coolness did little to soothe the turmoil within him. He opened his eyes slowly, the haze of tonic wine still swirling in his mind, but it was the relentless obsession with Chiara that kept him awake.

With a sudden impulse, Titus fished his phone out of his pocket and dialed Chiara’s number, his heart racing with anticipation and anxiety.

After what felt like an eternity, Chiara’s voice finally broke through the silence, “Hello?” There was a hint of uncertainty in her tone, her confusion evident—she clearly hadn’t expected his call at this hour.

Titus swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing nervously. One hand clenched his phone tightly while the other fidgeted with the buttons of his shirt, the tension palpable in the air. “You’re still awake?” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.

Chiara paused, the silence stretching between them like an unspoken question. “Yeah, just going over some work stuff. I was about to crash for the night. Did you need something? Calling this late?” Her tone was cautious, laced with concern.

Listening to her calm, gentle voice, something inside Titus shifted, the annoyance that had gripped him slowly dissipating. “Yeah, I do,” he admitted, the weight of his words hanging heavily in the air.

Chiara’s demeanor shifted instantly; the late-night call had put her on edge. “So, what’s up?” she asked, her voice taking on a serious tone.

Titus hesitated, the words tumbling over one another in his mind. “Does it count if I say I miss you?” he finally asked, his heart pounding.

Chiara froze, her breath catching in her throat as disbelief washed over her. She thought, ‘Is this really Titus calling me out of the blue?’

“Did I freak you out?” Titus asked, his voice tinged with a hint of concern.

Chiara pressed her lips together, trying to maintain her composure. “Seriously, what’s up?” she demanded, her curiosity piqued but her heart racing.

In all the years they had known each other, Titus had never called her this late—never reached out to her personally. Urgent matters were always funneled through Paul; a call like this was almost unheard of. It was no wonder Chiara was breathless, caught off guard by the unexpected intimacy of the moment.
