Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? novel Chapter 1269

Joyce looked at her, confused. "Why are you saying that?"

"Huh?" Sherilyn was even more baffled. "Is there something wrong with me thanking you?"

"No, it's just…" Joyce took a sip of her juice and swallowed a piece of her sandwich. A lump formed in her throat. "You don't know? Didn't my brother tell you? You two saw each other recently, right?"

"We did," Sherilyn said, a dozen questions in her eyes. "He came by to drop off the original documents a couple of days ago, but… what was he supposed to tell me?"

"Oh…" Joyce's mouth hung open in disbelief. Sherilyn didn't know? Her brother hadn't taken the opportunity to claim credit and win some points? Unbelievable! He was such a blockhead when it came to romance. He'd been the same way with his ex-wife, and now he was doing it again with Sherilyn. It was true that actions spoke louder than words, but sometimes you had to actually use your words. Otherwise, how would Sherilyn ever know how much he cared?

Joyce had promised to stay neutral, but she couldn't stand by and watch this. Her cousin was just too reserved.

"Actually," Joyce said with a sigh, deciding to tell the truth, "it wasn't me who helped with the cemetery plot. It was my brother."

Sherilyn froze. It was? "He never told me."

"That's just how my brother is," Joyce said, her tone a mixture of admiration and exasperation. "He's so quiet. A classic good guy."

"Wow…" Sherilyn let out a small laugh. "He should have told me." She didn't seem to be reading anything more into it.

Joyce pursed her lips, hesitating. "Sherilyn…"

"Yes?" Sherilyn looked up, waiting.

"Nothing…" Joyce shook her head with a smile. It was better to stop there. She'd promised not to take sides. She had given her cousin a little push; it was up to him to confess his feelings himself.
