Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 17

Sloane's eyelashes fluttered frantically, her body instinctively trying to retreat.

But Logan simply slid his other hand around to the small of her back, his heavy, possessive grip burning right through the thin fabric of her shirt.

The silver moonlight poured through the sheer curtains, casting a hazy, cinematic glow over their completely intertwined silhouettes.

The kiss stretched far beyond the mandatory three seconds.

When he finally pulled back, time felt entirely suspended.

Sloane's eyes snapped open, immediately plunging into the dark, smoldering depths of his gaze. Her face was burning like an absolute inferno.

Shoving him back, she bolted into her bedroom like her life depended on it.

The next day, Lennox Manor.

Since it was a rare occasion to have Logan home, Mrs. Beatrice Lennox was practically throwing a banquet, demanding the kitchen roll out every premium delicacy imaginable, including imported caviar and exotic stamina-boosting supplements.

Logan stared at the spread in absolute disbelief. "Grandma, are you trying to fatten me up for slaughter?"

"You just recovered from a massive trauma, and now you're a married man. You need your strength! I've been around long enough to know the newlywed life requires serious stamina."

"..." Logan dragged a hand down his face. "Beatrice, aren't you a little too old to be making jokes like that?"

"I'm just speaking the truth! What's inappropriate about that? You've been married for three days, don't tell me you haven't even..."

"It's only been three days!"

Beatrice stopped petting her purebred cat, her eyes narrowing as she scrutinized his physique. "Wait, is everything working down there? Your injury was a concussion; that shouldn't affect your plumbing, right?"

"Grandma!" Logan barked, his expression instantly darkening. "Everything works perfectly fine."

Beatrice gasped. "Is the girl rejecting you? I told you to drop this ridiculous 'struggling blue-collar' act! You're a billionaire, for God's sake—"

"She doesn't care about the money," Logan cut her off smoothly. "She even cooked dinner for me last night."

Just the thought of Sloane brought back the phantom sensation of her soft fingers tracing his scalp, accompanied by her faint, intoxicating scent of lavender.

"Oh?" Beatrice's face lit up like a Christmas tree. "The girl can cook? And she made it specifically for you? Was it actually edible?"

"It was incredible."

"Well, that's a massive win. So, have you two kissed yet?"

"Grandma, can you please stop interrogating my love life?" Logan groaned.

"Fine, fine, I'll drop it."

But three seconds later, Beatrice leaned in again. "So... the reason you haven't gone all the way is just because she's shy, right?"

"Basically, yes. We're taking it slow," Logan sighed.

"Well, at this rate, you're definitely going to hit your quota by the end of the year," Beatrice said with genuine relief.

With the global fertility crisis at an all-time high, the government aggressively mandated procreation for all eligible adults, and Logan's elite corporate board took compliance extremely seriously.

When he took his medical leave, the executives had practically ordered him to lock down a marriage and fulfill his demographic duty before returning, or risk massive corporate blowback.

"But don't just treat this like a business transaction," Beatrice added softly. "Finding a woman who actually cares for you is the greatest privilege in this life."

Logan went silent.

For him, the immediate priority was clearing the government mandate so he could get back to running his empire without bureaucratic interference.

He expertly pivoted the conversation. "Grandma, I actually came home today because I need a favor."

"A favor?" Beatrice adjusted her designer reading glasses. "You? Asking me for help? Did hell freeze over?"

Used to her theatrical sarcasm, Logan cut straight to the chase. "Your granddaughter-in-law is dealing with some serious workplace harassment."

"What? Absolutely unacceptable!"

Around 10 AM, an elderly woman shuffled into her office.
