"May I have this dance, Marlene?" Julian extended a hand, the perfect gentleman.
With her mission in mind, Sloane set her glass down and accepted. "Of course."
Julian took her hand and led her onto the dance floor.
The striking pair instantly became the center of attention, drawing all eyes in the room.
"Oh my god, is this an immersive game or did we actually time-travel?"
"I've played so many of these, and I've never seen a Commander this gorgeous."
"And she literally looks like a movie star."
"..."
However, once Julian's arm settled around Sloane's waist, he froze.
Sloane looked up at him in confusion. "Why aren't we dancing, Commander?"
Julian looked down at her, his expression entirely too honest. "Give me a second to remember how to waltz."
Sloane was speechless.
It was 2056; nobody actually waltzed anymore.
With the entire room watching them, Sloane whispered, "Then... just fake it a bit?"
"Alright."
With one hand clasping hers and the other resting firmly on her waist, Julian began to move.
But a second later, Sloane stepped squarely on his foot.
Julian used his best Logan tone to tease her. "Your footwork is rather unique, Ms. Marlene. What kind of dance is this?"
Sloane admitted defeat. "Honestly... I don't really know how either."
"Never mind, let's just push through."
They managed a clumsy spin, but Sloane accidentally tripped over his boot. Losing her balance, she pitched forward, crashing hard against his chest and nearly taking him down with her.
Julian steadied her by the waist, a wicked gleam in his eye. "You're a bit eager, aren't you, Marlene? We're getting a room tonight anyway. No need to throw yourself at me right here."
"...I tripped because these heels are too high."
The surrounding audience watched in silence.
