"Is that so? Do you have proof?"
Julian's tone was glacial, his expression so hardened that he genuinely looked like a man capable of murder.
"Proof? Commander, don't let this woman play you for a fool. She's stabbing you in the back and you're thanking her for it. Do you know what she's been doing right under your nose?"
Julian's voice remained as cold as a frozen lake. "Enlighten me. What has she done?"
"Has the Commander not realized that his military seal is missing?"
"My seal?" Julian let out a dark, mocking laugh. He casually reached into his coat and produced a velvet box. "My seal is right here. Who said it was missing?"
The Butcher's face darkened.
He quickly whipped out the box he had confiscated from Sloane.
Flipping it open, he stared at it in shock—it was completely empty.
What the hell was going on?
He glared at Sloane.
Suddenly, Sloane remembered the moment before she left the hotel room.
When he had backed her into the corner and pinned her against the wardrobe—that must have been the exact second he swapped the boxes on her.
That sly bastard.
Before anyone could react, Julian strode forward with long, confident steps.
He pulled Sloane flush against his side, wrapping a protective arm around her waist, and stared down The Butcher. "My woman did not steal my seal. She met with your contact on my strict orders. She's a method actress. How is she supposed to play a spy in her next film if she doesn't do a little fieldwork?"
"I'm taking what's mine. Play your little games on your own time."
With that, he guided Sloane away.
The Butcher's men moved to block them, but Julian's guards instantly raised their rifles. The enemy squad could do nothing but watch in bitter silence as Julian whisked Marlene away.
