Chapter 541 The First Guest

Roxen hadn’t expected Thora to turn the question back on him, but before he could answer, she gave it herself.
“Because of responsibility.”
She turned to look at him, her gaze unusually serious.
Roxen held her eyes for a few seconds, then broke into a grin. “You’re right.”
The yacht sped on, with nothing but endless coastline in sight. Only when the sun sank into the sea and cast
a sheet of gold across the water did the yacht become wrapped in that same warm light.
At that same moment, in another time zone 20 degrees of latitude away, a pair of black military boots. stepped into a manor.
The estate was enormous, yet eerily deserted. Dead leaves carpeted the vast courtyard, left unswept, making the whole place look so bleak and abandoned it seemed as though no one had ever lived there.
Lance walked straight across the brittle leaves and branches, the crisp crackle under his boots sharp in the
silence.
Inside, the room was filled with all kinds of laboratory equipment. Liquid dripped slowly from a pipette, each drop distinct in the stillness.
The man who had been sleeping on the sofa suddenly opened his eyes. His sapphire-blue eyes were clear and brilliant, yet filled with a depth of intelligence far beyond ordinary people. His profile was flawless, as though every line had been carved with deliberate care into a work of art.
He rose without bothering to straighten his clothes and went directly to the equipment, studying the reaction in one of the glass droppers with complete focus.
Then his eyes sharpened at once, locking precisely onto the direction of the front door. Footsteps were drawing closer.
He narrowed his eyes, and a smile slowly curved his lips.
About ten seconds later, the door creaked open. Lance’s hand rested on the handle, then paused.
To him, the door felt like a Pandora’s box, enough to make even him hesitate for a moment before pushing it fully open.
His gaze hardened. He put strength into both arms, and the unlocked door swung wide at once, letting the light from outside flood in.
A tall figure stood in the middle of the room, hands tucked casually into the pockets of a white lab coat, smiling at him.
The moment Lance saw him, he froze. The man wasn’t merely handsome. He was almost unnervingly perfect, even more striking than in the photographs.
What surprised Lance even more was the strange surge of respect that rose inside him without warning. It

was pure instinct, an involuntary urge to submit, and even he found it unexpected.

“You’re the first guest I’ve ever had here. Come in and sit down.” The man spoke first, lifting his eyes toward the couch.
Lance nodded once and walked in.
The man suddenly pulled out a remote and pressed a few buttons. Mechanical sounds immediately filled the room as every piece of experimental equipment sank out of sight. The floor sealed over seamlessly, as if none of it had ever been there.
He moved to one side, poured two glasses of juice, then sat down across from Lance and pushed one glass toward him.
His expression remained easy as he took a sip of juice and looked at Lance with a smile.
“I know who you are. Lance Wright, commander of the GrayWolf Mercenary Group. A very impressive
man.”
His tone was light, with not the slightest sign of unease at being sought out by Lance.
Lance relaxed into the sofa as well, lifted the glass, and took a sip. A faint curve touched his lips. “Thank you.”
Though it was their first meeting, the conversation between them flowed as naturally as if they had known each other for years.
After studying Lance for a while, the man’s eyes showed a hint of curiosity.
“How did you find me?”
Lance spread his hands and gave it a moment’s thought. “I guess you could say I got lucky. I was lucky, so I found you.”
That answer amused the man. “Then perhaps you’re the luckiest man on all of Blue Star.”
Lance neither agreed nor denied it.
The man spoke again, slowly and with complete certainty. “Let me guess. The GrayWolf Mercenary Group never takes on work outside its contracts, so if you came looking for me this time, someone must have asked you to. Plenty of people want to find me, but at a moment like this, only one person would be in a hurry.”
He took another sip of juice. Light flickered in his dark eyes as he looked at Lance.
“Duke Sheehan of the United Kingdom of Victor. Am I right?”
The smile on Lance’s face gradually faded. His gaze turned deep and unreadable as he stared fixedly at the man before him.
