Chapter 22 Cheating

“I went to your office last night and saw you get into Price’s car with my own eyes. You told me you were working overtime-do you think I’m stupid?”

Julian’s voice shot up sharply. Gone was his usual calm

demeanor-now he looked cold and pissed. His gaze looked like it could cut right through Chloe.

When Chloe met his eyes, her heart skipped a beat. She really hadn’t expected Julian to have gone to the office for her yesterday.

“Nothing to say?” That confirmed it. Everything Jane had told

him must be true.

“Chloe, haven’t I treated you well these past five years? And this is how you repay me-sleeping with Ethan Price’s assistant?”

Chloe stared at him, bewildered. What?

Her racing heart suddenly calmed down.

Julian clearly didn’t know about her meeting with Liam-which meant Jane must have fed him some story.

Chloe didn’t rush to answer Julian’s question. She looked at

“Why are you questioning Jane?” Tina frowned with

displeasure, scolding Chloe. “If Jane hadn’t told us about you. and that Liam, who knows how far this would have gone! You’ve completely embarrassed the Crawford family!”

“What exactly happened between Liam and me?” Chloe calmly picked up the teapot and poured herself a cup of tea. She took a leisurely sip. “Please, tell me. I’m curious too.”

Chloe’s nonchalant attitude left everyone confused. Had they misunderstood her?

Julian also turned to Jane. “You should tell everyone what happened. I don’t want to falsely accuse her.”

Jane began painting a vivid picture of Liam’s special treatment of Chloe at Apex Group.

“Yesterday we went to Apex Group together. When I went the day before, just a secretary showed me upstairs. But yesterday, when Chloe came with me, Liam personally came down to meet us. Chloe even has Liam’s phone number, and in the elevator, they seemed really close.”

Beyond that, Jane also mentioned Ethan Price’s favoritism toward Chloe during the interview.

James and Tina believed Jane’s words completely.

As soon as she finished, James said sternly, “Chloe, is this how Steven Shaw raised you? You’re married and you’re still running around with other men?”

“Chloe, what do you have to say for yourself?” Julian had met Liam several times before. Sure, Liam wasn’t as wealthy as the Summers family, but after years working for Ethan Price, he was well-connected and influential—not someone to dismiss lightly.

“Chloe, admit you’re wrong and apologize to Julian right now,” Jane said smugly.

Julian couldn’t tolerate any betrayal. Even if he wouldn’t immediately kick Chloe out of the Summers family, he would definitely never treat her kindly again. And Michael and Lauren would only despise her more.

But Chloe’s face showed no panic whatsoever. Instead, she wore an amused expression. “So because you’re screwing around with Julian’s assistant, you think I must be doing the same with Liam? That’s rich. We had a work conversation. But I guess projection is easier than self-reflection, isn’t it?”

At this point, Chloe showed Jane no mercy. Her gaze was full of

Jane hadn’t expected Chloe to say such things. Her face flushed red. “You know perfectly well if you did it or not!”

She cast a pleading look at Julian, but he completely missed her signal. His eyes held a searching look as he watched Chloe, with a hint of secret satisfaction hidden within.

He knew it-Chloe still loved him.

“Of course I know.” Chloe lifted her chin, far calmer than Jane’s

panicked expression.

“I’ve been trying to get an interview with Ethan Price for weeks. Of course I’ve been in contact with Liam-he’s his assistant. If you don’t believe me, here’s Ethan’s number. Feel free to call

him and ask.”

She pulled up Ethan Price’s contact information and placed her phone directly on the coffee table.

Silence.

No one moved. Call Ethan Price to interrogate him? That would be suicide. Nobody was stupid enough to piss off a man like that.

Tina was the first to smooth things over. “Since it’s not true, that’s good. We don’t want any problems between our families. Let’s just drop it. Julian, don’t be angry anymore.”

“Just ‘drop it’?” Chloe had no intention of letting this slide so easily. She raised an eyebrow, looking at Jane, who was still clinging to Tina’s arm.

“So because Mr. Price chewed you out, you decided to cause trouble for me? You told my husband and my parents that I’m sleeping with another man. Don’t you think you owe me an apology?”

“Chloe, Jane was only looking out for you. She was worried you might make a mistake.”

As soon as Tina realized Chloe was demanding an apology, she stepped between them protectively.

Unusually, James didn’t say anything. He just watched Chloe with those hooded eyes of his, his face giving nothing away.

“If she was looking out for me, shouldn’t she have asked me directly? Why tell Julian instead?” Chloe seemed to suddenly understand something, looking pointedly at Julian. “Seems like you two have been talking a lot behind my back. What, are you meeting up regularly or something?”

That instantly got a reaction from Julian, who had been silent until now.
