You Wed Your Past I Wed My Future novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24

“I’m not…” Stephanie instinctively tried to explain herself before realizing something.

Ever since she met Adrian, he hadn’t exactly been warm and friendly, but he had always treated her with respect and courtesy. The only times he ever lost his temper seemed to be when he thought she didn’t care about her own health.

Thinking it over, she explained, “I’m not throwing my life away for anyone. It’s just that the project I’m in charge of is wrapping up, and there are still a few loose ends I need to tie up. I want to see it through to the end. It’s also about being responsible for the teammates who’ve worked hard alongside me. Besides…”

Lowering her gaze, she added softly, “I’ll resign once this project is complete.”

Adrian’s expression eased somewhat.

He looked like he was about to say something else, but she went on, “I’m alright, really. I reacted that way this morning because of some… special circumstances. I’m completely fine

now.”

It did feel a little odd, explaining herself to him. But when she saw the way he looked, she felt like she had to do something to assuage his worry.

Adrian frowned, but after seeing how earnest she was, he chose to respect her decision.

“Get in the car,” he said.

As the car headed toward Grover Group, Adrian stayed silent, and Stephanie followed suit.

They were about to arrive when she finally said, “Thank you so much for saving me this morning, Mr. Hawke. And thank you for treating me to such a wonderful breakfast. Later on, once I head back to Jetterpolis, I’ll treat you to a meal as well.”

She knew perfectly well that a single meal wasn’t nearly enough to repay the kind of debt she owed him, but she would end up sounding too fake if she made a huge speech now about how she was going to thank him.

Once she was back in Jetterpolis, she’d find an opportunity to repay him.

“When are you heading back?” Adrian asked.

“The 15th of next month.”

Adrian calmly replied, “Perfect. I’ll be heading back that day as well. Let’s go together.”

“You’re also leaving Hydroton on the 15th of next month?” Stephanie queried in surprise.

Were his business dealings in Hydroton keeping him in town for so long?

“Yeah. My private jet will be departing from Hydroton Airport at noon on the 15th of next month, “Adrian informed her. “You can just head straight to the airport then.”

She was about to speak when he added, “With or without you, I will still have to fly from Hydroton back to Jetterpolis on the 15th. It’s no problem at all to give you a ride as well. You don’t need to feel like you’d owe me another favor.”

Since he put it that way, it wouldn’t be right for her to keep declining his offer.

“Okay. I’ll be there on time. Thank you, Mr. Hawke,” Stephanie said.

Just then, they arrived at Grover Group. She said goodbye to Adrian and got out of the car.

After she’d disappeared into the building, Adrian instructed his driver to carry on driving. Then, he made a call.

“Change my return flight to the 15th of next month.”

Harry was startled. “Are you sure, Mr. Hawke? You were originally scheduled to fly back the day after tomorrow.”

“Yes.”

Since Adrian had said as much, Harry dared not press any further and quickly replied that he would get it sorted.

Sitting in his office, Tyler stared at his phone screen with a stormy expression. On it was the latest scoop released by a gossip tabloid.

“Heir of the Hawkes of Jetterpolis Caught in a Romance? Seen Being Intimate With a Mystery Woman.”

The article included two paparazzi shots. One featured Adrian walking side by side with a woman as they headed into what seemed like a restaurant, while the other showed them chatting beside a car.

The pictures didn’t reveal the woman’s full face. There was only a shot of her from behind and a partial shot of her side profile.

Still, these were enough for Tyler to recognize that Stephanie was the woman in the pictures.

Perhaps due to the angle from which the pictures were taken, she and Adrian did seem to be fairly intimate with each other in the picture of them chatting beside the car.

Just what was the deal between them?

“Don’t be upset, Ty,” Kiara said as she stood beside Tyler and did her best to hide her gloating expression. “This is probably just a lapse of judgment on Ms. Ford’s part. After all, Mr. Hawke did save her this morning.”

“So what if he saved her? How can she cozy up to another man like that?” Tyler growled, his expression unpleasant. “She seems to have forgotten who she is. She’s my woman!”

Kiara frowned. She’d been rather gleeful at first, thinking that Tyler and Stephanie would surely get into a fight over this situation. But now, she felt threatened.

Why was Tyler reacting so strongly to this? Was Stephanie that important to him?

She quickly dismissed that thought. It was probably just the result of his wounded pride as a

man.

Meanwhile, the more Tyler dwelled on it, the angrier he got. He was just about to call Stephanie when he heard a knock on the door.

“Come in,” he snapped in annoyance.

Unexpectedly, it was Stephanie who entered the office.

She’d just arrived at the company and received a document that was in urgent need of his signature, so she brought it in.

Stephanie wasn’t surprised to see Kiara around. She simply walked up to Tyler’s desk and placed the document in front of him before saying in a professional tone, “Your signature is required for this document, Mr. Grover.”

However, after she finished speaking, she noticed that Tyler didn’t even look at the document. Instead, he was glaring heatedly at her.

Frowning, she wondered what on earth had gotten into him this time.

“When did you arrive at the office, Ms. Ford?” Kiara piped up snidely. “I thought you’d still be out with Mr. Hawke.”

“You’d better explain yourself to me, Stephanie!” Tyler demanded.
