Reborn to Burn Them All novel Chapter 14

Chapter 14

Sophia laughed loud, but her words cut deep.

Yvette’s smile froze. “Sophia, you’re really confident, aren’t you?”

Sophia shook her head. “Everyone should be confident. I’m so gorgeous, yet I still can’t match your confidence–you’re sure of yourself that everyone just loves you.”

Sophia really meant it, but to Yvette, it was pure mockery. With no one else around, she dropped the act and let her true colors show.

She drew closer to whisper in Sophia’s ear, “You’re acting out to get Dad, Mom, and Howard’s attention, aren’t you? Scared I’ll steal them? Nice try. But now I’m back, and this family only needs one daughter.”

Yvette expected her words to provoke Sophia into losing her cool, maybe even resorting to physical action. Instead, Sophia simply met her gaze with a faint smile. “Are you that proud of being the daughter of the Chandler family?”

Through all these circles, Sophia had never grasped what exactly she had done to tick off Yvette, the main character in this story.

Now she got it. But she didn’t expect the reason to be so ridiculous–Yvette wanted to be the only daughter of the Chandler family, so Sophia had to disappear.

Sophia’s words struck a nerve. Yvette exploded, her eyes burning with jealousy. “You know nothing, Sophia! You grew up in this fancy house, while I’ve been doing chores and cooking since I could walk.

“You got a plush bedroom in a villa, while I was stuck on a balcony with a wooden plank barely three feet wide. It was freezing in winter, and roasting in summer. And when it rained, the whole bed got soaked-”

Sophia cut her off mid–rant. “Are you serious right now? Pulling the victim

card on me? Do you think I don’t know the truth? You might fool the stupid Chandlers, but I’m not buying it.”

The entire novel was imprinted in Sophia’s mind. No one understood Yvette’s life better than she did.

Yvette’s tale of woe lasted less than a year before her adoptive father plunged into gambling debt, and her adoptive mother sold her to a wealthy businessman named Mike Sampson.

Mike had only one son, Kevin, who was two years older than Yvette. When Yvette arrived at the Sampson residence, she became Mike’s adopted daughter. Not only did the Sampson couple lavish her with love, but Kevin also treated her like a true sister.

In truth, Yvette’s life had turned out far better than Sophia’s experience growing up in the Chandler family.

Yvette was caught off guard by Sophia’s reaction and felt compelled to clarify. “I’m not trying to play the victim, and I have zero reason to lie to

you.”

Sophia dismissed her with a distracted hum. “So you’re saying the Sampsons treated you badly, and that’s why you’re full of resentment

now?”

Yvette stared at her, shocked.

Sophia continued, “Why would I care about your tough life? Was I the one who got you lost?”

As Yvette still stood there stunned, Sophia rolled her eyes, grabbed a plate of fruit, and headed upstairs.

She climbed two steps, took a bite of her apple, and said casually, “Yvette, if you want to be the only daughter in the Chandler family, talk to Jonathan and Heather. Telling me won’t help–I’m not your mom.”

‘What the hell? Just because Yvette’s jealous of me, I’m supposed to die? Now I’m getting cast as the bad guy? Seriously, screw it!‘ Sophia thought, fuming inside.
