Seeing Dorian’s silence, Maelis assumed he didn’t believe her. Pouting, she said, “I’m telling the truth! You don’t believe me?”
Maelis pulled Nadia over and said, “Nadia, do you want to be friends with Sophia? Being her friend makes you feel incredibly safe.”
Nadia watched Sophia’s back, feeling a strange pull in her heart. She thought, ‘Sophia’s back looks so slender and alone, yet there’s an unshakable strength in it. It’s such a contradiction. Just like Maelis said, she does make me feel safe.”
Nadia said hesitantly, “I kind of want to, but I’m afraid she’ll look down on me.”
Maelis laughed and said, “Don’t be silly! Sophia is amazing. She even puts up with me, so why would she look down on you?”
Nadia fell silent.
Dorian glanced at Maelis and said, “Well, you’re quite self–aware.”
Maelis puffed up like an angry blowfish.
“Are you three coming or not?” Sophia asked as she turned to look at the three of them.
“Sophia, I’m coming!” Maelis called out, dashing over to Sophia.
Dorian rolled his eyes in exasperation. Then he glanced at Nadia and asked, “Trying to get close to Sophia?”
Caught off guard by the sudden question, Nadia nearly jumped. “I don’t,” she stammered.
Dorian fixed her with a steady gaze. “Don’t lie,” he said quietly.
Nadia hung her head and murmured, “I just feel like Sophia is kind.”
Dorian nodded thoughtfully. He said, “Same here. Let’s add each other on social media.”
Nadia hesitated for a moment, but with Dorian nudging her, she finally added him on social media.
Dorian said, “You and Sophia are roommates. She’s so outstanding, that people are bound to get jealous. If anyone’s stupid enough to mess with her, let
me know.”
Nadia fell silent. She suddenly felt like her phone was burning up in her hand. She thought, ‘All I wanted was to focus on my studies.‘
After the four of them had dinner, they went their separate ways.
Maelis pouted when she found out Sophia wasn’t driving. With hurt in her voice, she asked, “Sophia, don’t you like the car I gave you?
Sophia said, “That car isn’t campus–appropriate.”
Dorian nodded and chimed in, “Did you even look at what kind of car you picked? Sophia wants to keep a low profile, unlike you, always craving attention wherever you go.”
Maelis huffed, “You little brat! Why do you always have to oppose me?”
Dorian retorted, “I just can’t stand watching you act like a fool.”
Maelis let out an angry huff, completely ignoring Dorian. She marched over and linked arms with Sophia, shooting Dorian a challenging glare.
Dorian rolled his eyes and turned away,

Once in the car, Dorian noticed Sophia frowning, her whole demeanor heavy and gloomy. Trying to lighten the mood, he said, “Sophia, the Hebert family has been quite the spectacle lately.”
“Getting divorced?” Sophia asked.
Dorian chuckled and said, “Yeah, after Blake got out of the hospital, he wanted a divorce. But Lucy said she wouldn’t agree unless she got half his fortune. Blake was so pissed, he actually hired someone to beat up the guy Lucy was cheating with.
“The guy Lucy cheated with threatened to sue, but Blake stood his ground and told them to go ahead. He swore not to leave a single cent of his fortune
to Leon.
“Now the whole family’s in chaos: the elders are fighting, the younger ones are making a scene, and Benedict has dropped all talk of starting a celibate life. He just mopes around like a zombie, clinging to the keepsakes from his fiancée, looking lifeless.”
Sophia thought, ‘Well, the Hebert family drama just keeps getting juicier!
In the original storyline, after being dumped by his fiancée, Benedict was down in the dumps for quite a while. Then he met Yvette, who became his salvation. And from that point on, Benedict turned into a total simp for Yvette.
Sophia thought, ‘Now that I’ve completely thrown the Hebert family in
chaos, and Benedict still clings to his irreplaceable first love. The Hebert family
can no longer be Yvette’s backing. After all, who could ever compete with a dead woman?‘
Maelis, unwilling to be left out, squeezed into the car and said, “Sophia, did you watch the kitten video I sent? That little fighter’s recovering so well. The vet said just one more week at the clinic, and I can take it home.
“If you ever want to see the kitten, you can always come over to my place.”
Sophia said flatly, “Don’t send those. I don’t like them.”
Maelis opened her mouth as if to say something, but then closed it without a word. The next second, she pulled out her phone and played a video of a kitten. The tiny creature’s soft, plaintive mews instantly fill the space.
Sophia’s eyes flickered, then she deliberately turned to look out the window. She thought, ‘Out of sight, out of mind.‘ She stayed that way until her phone buzzed, interrupting the moment. Checking it, she saw a message from the Samuel Capital Group chat.
Wilbur said: [Ms. Chandler, this is Corey, my junior from the university and head of Project Investment.]
Sophia paused when she saw the name Corey.
Corey said: [Hello, Ms. Chandler]
After saying hello, Corey felt a wave of nervousness. He hadn’t met Sophia yet. All he knew from Wilbur was that Sophia had deep p
Sophia said: [Corey?]
Corey replied: [Yes, Ms. Chandler.]
Sophia said: [Send me your photo.]
Corey froze, completely at a loss for what to do,
Wilbur said: [Ms. Chandler, you’ve flustered Corey]
Sophia said: [What’s the big deal about asking for his photo? Is he that ugly or something?]
Her shameless confidence left Wilber unable to even get angry. He knew her ways too well. He sent her a private message, asking: (Ms. Chandler, is there some issue?]
