Chapter 28
The next day, Sophiappened her eyes and stared blankly at the unfamiliar ceiling
For a moment, it felt as though she had returned to a time when all she could do was lie in a hospital bed, unable to do anything. She could only wat day after day, year after yeat, for death.
At that moment. Sophia’s eyes were filled with an emptiness, lacking any sign of life. After a while, she blinked, and her mind cleared up
She instinctively moved her fingers and clenched them, finally letting out a long breath. She glanced at her phone–it was afready ten o’clock, with a few unread messages.
Boss, someone is lowering the heat. They’ve been deleting all the posts about Wette on Twitter. What should we do!]
Boss, are you there!]
These messages had been sent at six in the morning.
Sophia didn’t rush to reply. Instead, she opened her phone. Sure enough, all the messages about Yvette had disappeared, including the trending topit
from last night.
Calmly, Sophia exited Twitter and replied, Stop it. I’ll send you money later.]
The reply came quickly. Thanks. If you need anything, just message me, I’m always available.]
Sophia got out of bed and went to wash up. She was dressed in gray long pajama pants and a loose T–shirt, yawning as she went downstairs
Downstairs, Heather and Yvette were chatting and laughing, enjoying a shopping service and picking out clothes and bags from a certain brand.
“vette, this dress looks great, it really suits you,” Heather said. “And this white one, and this soft green one, they’re nice too. Take them upstairs to try on, and if you like any of them, just keep them.”
Heather was holding up dresses to Yvette, and it seemed like both of them were enjoying the moment, creating a pleasant atmosphere.
“Thanks, Mom. I…” Wette, who had been smiling, free when she saw Sophia. The atmosphere immediately became cold.
Heather also noticed Sophia. Her eyes flickered. “Sophia, why don’t you pick out a couple of things too!”
Sophia raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything,
Heather continued, “Howard is filming a variety show and will be shooting at home the day after tomorrow.”
“Who cares?” Sophia lazily walked over, giving the clothes a hall–hearted glance. “They’re all fine. I’ll take them all.”
Yvette was stunned, her gaze lowering. Before Heather could speak, she said, “Since Sophia likes them, let her have them.”

“Sophia, don’t go too far!” Heather couldn’t stand it anymore and angrily scolded her. “You’re taking all the clothes, what will Yvette wear? Can’t you be a little less selfish!”
Sophia gave her a cold glance, a mocking smile curling on her lips. “What are you going to do about it? Call the police!”
With that, she threw a dismissive glance Yvette. “What she wears has nothing to do with me. She’s your daughter, not mine. I couldn’t care less about her.”

Heather’s face turned red with anger, but she didn’t dare confront Sophis directly. She could only Yvette. Mom will buy you more, better ones.”
Wette watched as Sophia took the skirt she had wanted without any hesitation. She bit her lip, feeling deeply wronged.
Sophia went to the kitchen to grab a sandwich and a box of milk. As she walked back, the overheard Heather’s words and smiled, “I heard everything you said.”
Jonathan had no choice but to walk over himself. The secretary opened the briefcase and pulled out a stack of documents. “These are the ones you requested. Once you sign, the procedures can be processed. You can take a look first”
Sophia casually flipped through the papers and then took a photo with her phone, sending it to James. Five minutes later, she received a reply: You can sign]
Jonathan put the papers away. “Now we can go handle the procedures.
Sophia didn’t want to go, and seeing his urgency, she delegated the task to James, Jonathan and the secretary left in a hurry, clearly eager to finish things quickly.
Not long g after Jonathan left, Sophia remembered she still didn’t have a driver’s license in this lifetime and would need to sign up for a driving test.
She turned and noticed wette’s barely concealed jealousy. Sophia peered in disdain.
Yvette continued, “Whether it’s the house, the car, or even the dresses Mom buys for me, you have to take them from me.
