Reborn to Burn Them All novel Chapter 44

Chapter 44

The wealthy woman’s voice was perfectly pitched, but it was enough to make everyone turn their heads.

Heather’s expression froze, her smile stiffening awkwardly. Inside, she was fuming, silently cursing Sophia for putting her in such an embarrassing situation.

Sophia, however, wasn’t about to hold back. She asked, “Who are you?”

The woman was momentarily stunned, her face darkening. She replied, “Young lady, I’m your mother’s good friend, Kelly.”

“Hi there,” Sophia replied, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

Kelly’s eyes widened in anger. She snapped, “Where are your manners? Heather, is this how you’ve raised your daughter?

Heather’s face turned even sourer, but she chose to remain silent for now.

Sophia raised an eyebrow, her expression lazy yet defiant. She said, “Greeting you is already being generous.”

Kelly was left speechless.

Sophia tilted her chin and let out a derisive chuckle. She said, “You know I’ve got a bad temper, yet you still come over here with your snide remarks. Are you just asking for trouble?”

This time, Kelly was truly infuriated.

The crowd froze, and they looked at Sophia in disbelief. They had heard rumors about Sophia’s antics before, but seeing her in action was something else entirely. Despite her seemingly sweet appearance, it was clear she wasn’t someone to mess with.

“Heather,” Kelly said through clenched teeth. Not wanting to be seen as someone who argued with Sophia, a girl, she turned her attention to Heather instead.

Heather sighed and said, “That’s just how she is. There’s nothing I can do.” Yet, as she watched Kelly’s face twist in anger, a small sense of satisfaction bubbled up inside her.

She thought, ‘Well, as long as Sophia is not giving me trouble, let her deal with someone else for a change.‘

Kelly let out a cold snort, her anger evident. She said, “Mrs. C Chandler, if you keep letting your child act out like this, disrespecting her elders and running wild, she’s bound to cause a major scandal one day.”

She thought, ‘I can’t wait to see Sophia mess up. It would be quite the spectacle.’

Heather’s thoughts shifted. She thought, ‘Honestly, if Sophia does cause trouble, it might not be such a bad thing. Someone else would have to clean up the mess, and I wouldn’t have to lift a finger.‘

Of course, she kept such thoughts to herself. She simply replied, “What can I do? She’s grown up and has her ideas.”

The onlookers exchanged glances, their disapproval clear as they shook their heads.

Sophia, however, remained unfazed. She didn’t care what Heather was thinking. She knew Heather had never had any control over her.

Seeing Kelly about to leave, Sophia wasn’t about to let her off the hook. She said, “Hey, you, have you heard the rumors about me?”

Kelly paused mid–step. She asked, “What rumors?

Sophia’s smile widened as she said, “I’m quite skilled at fortune–telling, you know.”

Kelly froze, speechless. The crowd exchanged glances, equally stunned. Heath

cringed, wishing she could disappear.

Sophia chuckled lightly. She added, “Don’t believe me? Well, let me tell you, I am the one who sent Zane and Fiona to where they are now

Kelly’s face turned pale, a sense of unease creeping over her. She wanted to leave, but the crowd was already leaning in, their curiosity burning with

anticipation.

Before Kelly could make her escape, Sophia spoke again, “I heard your son recently started dating someone. She’s quite popular with both you and your husband, isn’t she? You’re even discussing engagement plans.”

Kelly didn’t react much; her son’s relationship wasn’t exactly a secret. It wasn’t surprising that Sophia knew about it. But what Sophia said next made her heart skip a beat.

Sophia continued, “Want to know what your future daughter–in–law is really like?”

Kelly’s mind raced. She thought, ‘What does she mean?‘ Even the crowd couldn’t help but wonder about the identity of this mysterious fiancée.

But Sophia didn’t elaborate. Instead, she glanced around at the eager faces and smiled. She said, “I won’t spoil the surprise. Kelly, you can investigate it yourself. If you can’t figure it out, just send me the money, and I’ll tell you.”

Kelly snapped out of her daze. Just as she was about to chase after the Chandlers, her husband and son showed up, stopping her in her tracks.

Heather hesitated for a moment before recounting how Sophia had confronted Kelly outside. She said, “Do you think this will cause trouble? I knew it was a mistake to bring Sophia. She’s always stirring things up.”

Heather muttered under her breath, “If Yvette hadn’t been injured, Sophia wouldn’t even be here. This is all Monica’s fault.” But she knew it was too late to change anything now.

Jonathan’s gaze shifted to Sophia, who was standing by the buffet table, piling food onto her plate like she’d never seen such a spread before. Her behavior struck him as embarrassingly unsophisticated, and he couldn’t hide his irritation.

Heather hesitated, inwardly groaning. The thought of keeping Sophia in check made her cringe. Just then, a group of other ladies approached her. Seeing that Jonathan didn’t pay attention to her, Heather seized the opportunity and exhaled in relief as she joined the women for a chat.

Sophia walked up to the buffet table, picked up a plate and tongs, and was about to grab some food. Just as she reached for a slice of cake, someone
