Chapter 52
Heather heard Sophia’s words but didn’t give them much thought. She had received a call from the family maid but intentionally arrived late,
“Sophia, what kind of mess have you gotten yourself into this time?” Heather scolded, her tone sharp and full of reproach. Yet, deep down, she was secretly pleased.
Sophia’s usual defiance seemed to crumble the moment she saw Heather. Her shoulders drooped, and she muttered softly, “I didn’t do anything wrong.
Heather didn’t bother acknowledging Sophia’s words. Instead, she turned to Charlotte and said, “I’m so sorry. My daughter has always been rebellious and self–centered. I never thought she’d go so far as to hurt
omeone.
“Madam, please handle this however you see fit. We’ll cover any compensation necessary. She may be young, but she needs to learn her lessons. We’ll fully cooperate and won’t complain.”
Heather’s words sounded considerate and selfless, but the officers handling the case remained silent. Their gazes toward Heather carried a mix of complexity, while their eyes showed sympathy for Sophia.
Charlotte noticed Sophia’s sudden slump–her head hung low, silent, and not even trying to defend herself. “Ma’am, your daughter is incredibly brave. She protected her sister, and what she did was self–defense, plain and simple.”
Heather froze for a moment, then scoffed, “That’s ridiculous! There’s no way she protected Yvette! She…”
“Do you even know what really happened?” Charlotte cut her off, her voice sharp and unwavering.
Charlotte said, “You know nothing, yet you come here and blindly criticize your daughter, scolding her. I’ve never seen a parent like you before.”
Charlotte’s heart sank. First, it was Sophia’s father, at that moment her mother. She believed that Sophia must suffer in the Chandler family.
“You…” Heather was stunned, not expecting to be lectured by a young officer. Her face turned sour instantly.
Jonathan, who recognized the officer from before, glanced at Sophia, who was putting on an innocent act. He said, “Madam, my wife was just too worried about Sophia and got carried away. I hope you can understand.”
“What exactly happened?” Charlotte, mindful of Sophia’s feelings, called the couple aside to explain the situation in detail. She even took the time to offer them some earnest advice.
When Jonathan and Heather returned, their expressions were far from pleasant.
“Sophia, you…” Jonathan approached his daughter, his emotions a tangled mess.
hurt someone to protect Yvette. That wasn’t your fault.”
Heather forced an awkward smile. “Yes, you did well.”
Sophia’s mood flipped in an instant. She perked up, her eyes sparkling. “Really? So, does protecting Yvette mean I get a reward?”
Jonathan hesitated, his eye twitching as he met Sophia’s expectant gaze. With everyone watching, he sighed inwardly and forced a smile. “Yes, of course.”
Sophia’s eyes lit up as she raised an eyebrow in delight. Jonathan, as if unable to control himself, transferred her a hefty sum–30 thousand dollars–on the spot.
“Thank you, Dad! If anyone bullies Yvette again, I’ll protect her just like this!” said Sophia.
Both Jonathan and Heather fell into silence. Meanwhile, Monica and Kevin, who had witnessed the entire practically hitting the floor.
scene, stood frozen in disbelief, their jaws
Kevin thought, ‘I have been beaten for no reason, bled so much, and yet Sophia walked away unscathed–and even got rewarded. Is the world completely upside down?‘

Chapter 52
Sophia returned to the Chandler residence in high spirits, having both roughed someone up and pocketed some cash for it. But as soon as she stepped inside, Jonathan summoned her to the study.
“Sophia,” Jonathan began, his tone serious, “you did well today protecting Yvette, but about Howard…”
Sophia stared at him, her face completely blank.
Jonathan hesitated, struggling to continue. “I know Howard was wrong to ask you for a gift, but pushing him down the stairs? What if something had gone terribly wrong?”
Noticing Sophia’s expression darken, Jonathan quickly added, “Let’s just call it a lesson for him this time, but you were too harsh.”
Sophia poured herself a cup of coffee, her tone calm and matter–of–fact. “I calculated everything. The ground was freshly tilled and watered—soft enough
to break his fall. A drop from the second floor wouldn’t kill him“?
Jonathan was stunned into silence. He thought, ‘So, she’d planned it all? But what if something had gone wrong?”
“And you…”
“I’ve said it before–if you don’t provoke me, I won’t hurt anyone. Everything I do is self–defense. Is there something wrong with protecting myself?”
Jonathan faltered, his voice uncertain. “Of course, there’s nothing
Ong with
protecting yourself, but…”
Sophia let out a cold laugh. “You think I went too far? Tell me, when I’ve taught them lessons before, did they learn? No, they just keep coming back for
more.”
Jonathan sighed. “But they’re your siblings, not strangers.”
Sophia said nothing, her gaze steady and unyielding.
Under her piercing stare, Jonathan began to feel uneasy. Sophia rolled her eyes with disdain and said, her tone unapologetic, “Jonathan, save your lecture. It’s a waste of time–and money.
“Family? Parents, siblings? None of that matters to me. The only thing I care about is money. Love it, live for it–that’s all that matters.
“With enough money, why bother being a daughter or sister? I’d rather be the one calling the shots and have people pamper me.”
Jonathan had just taken a sip of coffee. When he heard her words, he spat it out instantly.
Sophia got up and stepped back in disgust. “Gosh, Jonathan, you’re so gross!”
Jonathan coughed a few times, not really angry. After all, Sophia had always been like this. If he got mad every time, he’d have died of frustration ages
ago.
“Alright, I’ll tell them not to mess with you,” he said.
Sophia gave him a long, pointed look and then left.
