Chapter 8
The stunning policewoman’s eyes bulged with astonishment. She sprang to her feet in a flash, sending the chair behind her clattering to the floor, and demanded urgently, “Are you absolutely certain there’s a corpse concealed within the mansion?”

Sophia clamped a hand over her mouth, her eyes blinking rapidly in sheer terror, her face a picture of genuine dread. “Oh heavens, why on earth did I blurt that out? This is a disaster. They’re bound to hunt me down now.”
“Sophia, I swear I’ll wring your neck!” Teresa, her composure shattered at the mention of a body, lunged at Sophia with a furious cry.
Sophia cowered in fear, her head bowed low as she wailed, “I’m finished. I’m as good as dead.”
The officer slammed her palm on the table. “Enough! Threatening a witness? In a police station?” She waved two officers over. “Take them away.”
The officer turned to Sophia, now trembling in her chair, and headed
toward the break room.
Sophia peeked as the couple was dragged off. Dante glanced back. Their eyes locked. Sophia tilted her head, grinned crookedly, and waved.
Dante almost snapped and was tempted to kill her on the spot.
The officer returned, water in hand, and found Sophia still quaking. Her voice softened. “Ms. Chandler, don’t worry. If you’re telling the truth, we’ll protect you.”
Sophia hung her head, shoulders shaking as she sobbed, “The Lynn family is huge. After I called the cops yesterday, Jonathan punished me all night. ̧ This morning, he had dragged me over to apologize to them.”

assumed was a pushover. The officer’s heart went out to her instantly after hearing her story. “Don’t worry,” she said, voice soft. “We’ve got your back. Trust us, okay?”
Jonathan pinched the bridge of his nose, veins throbbing. The second he saw the Lynns, he knew it was over. Now, with Sophia’s words and the cop’s glare, frustration clogged his throat.
But he had to play it cool. “You didn’t spill the full story yesterday, kid,” he lied smoothly. “I just didn’t wanna waste police time. Never thought their kid would actually hurt someone.”
Sophia’s head snapped up, eyes glinting. “I trust you, Officer. Zane was obsessed with a girl. She rejected him, so he choked her. His butler buried
her behind the villa.”
The cop’s breath hitched. “Hold on.” She stepped away, dialing furiously.
Sophia lounged against the table, hands propping up her chin, and scoped out the station like she was at a café. A little smirk tugged at her lips—none of those earlier jitters were left in sight.
Jonathan’s jaw tightened after knowing that she’d been faking it the whole time. “Sophia-”
She cut him off with a cold glance. “Zip it.”
Jonathan seethed but bit his tongue. He knew well that they were in the police station.
Half an hour later, the cop returned, looking livid. “Ms. Chandler, thanks for your tip. We found the body.”

Outside the station, Sophia hummed, practically skipping.
Jonathan massaged his temples. “How’d you even know all this?”

Sophia whipped out her phone, showing her nickname–MoneyTalks.
Jonathan’s lip twitched. He stormed off to the car.
Sophia sighed, “Typical Chandler. Always so… boxed in.”
