Nolan wasn't short on cash. However, he didn't know what Kara liked at all. He could give her some jewelry if he wanted to.
Then, he remembered what Blake said to him previously. Seeing how Audrey hadn't called him yet, he figured out what was going on.
Nolan called Audrey, and the phone rang for a long while without anyone answering. However, the call connected at the last second, and it felt like the person was hesitant to answer. In the end, she still couldn't hold herself back from missing him.
"Can I help you, Nolan?" Audrey asked through the phone.
Her voice was soft as usual, but Nolan could tell something was wrong with her that day.
He gently said, "It's Kara's birthday tomorrow, and she came here to invite me to her party herself. I've already said yes, so I need to prepare a gift.
"However, I don't know what I should get for her. Would you like to accompany me and help me get her a gift, Audrey?"
He didn't say too much and just used that as an excuse to get her to come out. In the past, he wouldn't have to say much to get her to see him immediately. However, there was silence that day, and he could tell she was hesitant.
"Nolan, there's no need for formalities. Just get her anything and it'll be enough. Kara did tell me what she liked previously, but I can't really remember the details. Forget it. Just buy something random."
Nolan immediately said with a smile, "So, what is it? Tell me. I'm interested too."
