The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 391

A flash of panic crossed Megan's eyes. She wasn't afraid of Nolan. Rather, this was something she'd kept buried for years, one she was quite afraid of confronting.

In fact, it partly explained her coldness toward Audrey and the distance she'd deliberately maintained.

"How would I know? It's not new that Audrey and Kara don't like me. Of course, they'd be uncomfortable to see us back together again.

"Forget it. I'm done talking about this. If you keep questioning me like this, I'll go straight to your parents."

Megan had found herself a strong backing in Nolan's parents. They were the most effective way of manipulating him.

Sure enough, Nolan's tone grew cold at the mention of his parents. "I'm warning you, Megan. Don't make things hard for my parents. I'm already playing along, so don't push your luck. Otherwise, there will be consequences." With that, Nolan stormed into the room.

Megan scoffed at Nolan's retreating figure and thought to herself. "Did you really think I want you to play along? Once I get what I want, I'll make sure to evict you and your family."

Meanwhile, Nolan found Liana seated in the guest room, staring blankly from her seat. "Liana, has Tyler been mistreating you over the years?"

Liana shook her head immediately. "N-No, Nolan. I know you're worried about me, but you just got out of prison, so just focus on your own matters.

"There's no need to get involved in your brother-in-law's affairs. Don't make Mom and Dad worry either and try to get along with Megan.

"I can tell there's a lot you're holding back, but sometimes marriage is just like that, you can't always live as you'd like." As Liana spoke, she grew depressed as if she were reflecting on her own troubles.
