The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 465

Ben and Stefan were momentarily taken aback. Did Nolan just tell them to off themselves in front of everyone?

"I'm sorry, Nolan, but what did you just say? Did you actually tell us to off ourselves?" Ben laughed as if he had heard the funniest joke in the world.

"At first, I thought maybe you just had a few screws loose, but now I see you've completely lost it! What, did prison fry your brain? How could you even suggest something like that? Do you have any idea what you're saying? You've gone totally insane!"

Just then, Hoover casually strolled forward with a grin on his face. Now seemed like the perfect moment to assert his presence.

"Nolan, I understand you're angry. But no one's perfect. Even Mr. Stutton and Mr. Gallant, for all their mistakes, have done far more good than harm. If that weren't the case, do you think these villagers would stand by them so steadfastly?

"So, maybe you should stop pointing fingers and take a good hard look at yourself. It's time to let go of this obsession. Otherwise, the only people you're hurting aren't just yourselves—but your family, and even your wife too! You're dragging them all down with you."

As Hoover spoke, his eyes drifted toward Megan, who stood off to the side. There was not a single piece of dirt marring her elegant appearance.

"Ms. Turner, Nolan is your husband," he said with a smile. "I believe you should try harder to talk some sense into him. After all, one cannot go against the will of the people. And besides, this small sum surely is like chump change to you."

Megan remained where she was, basking in the moment. Oh, how she enjoyed seeing Nolan squirm. Time and time again, Nolan had acted as though he could turn the tide at the last second. But now, standing before his relatives and the entire village, he was out of options.
