Harper could only voice a helpless and powerless question.
Nolan had only one answer. "I don't want to do anything. I just want you to understand that in this world, everything comes with a price. Of course, I'm giving you a choice. But once you make it, there's no turning back."
Harper bit down hard on her lip. Looking at Nolan, she said through gritted teeth, "If you think you can humiliate me for your own amusement, think again!"
Nolan simply nodded, then pointed at Owen and waved his hand.
Immediately, his subordinate untied Owen from the pole and dragged him to Nolan's feet.
By now, Owen had been tormented to the point where he couldn't even scream anymore. There was only despair on his face, as if all he wanted was to die.
Nolan looked down at Owen and said coldly, "Lense was killed by you at one of your family's estates, wasn't he? Then, lead the way."
With that, he waved his hand and his people immediately sprang into action. Those who needed to board vehicles did so, and those who needed to secure captives ensured no one escaped.
In any case, no one was getting away.
Just like that, Nolan led everyone straight to the Norberg family's estate.
By the artificial lake at the estate, every member of the Norberg family, including Owen, knelt facing the water.
Meanwhile, Fang's men had already waded into the lake to search for Malcolm's body.
At that moment, Nolan still clung to a sliver of hope that maybe Malcolm wasn't dead and that maybe he had escaped.
But when Malcolm's body was finally pulled from the water, that last shred of hope was utterly shattered.
Nolan slowly walked forward and came to a stop before Malcolm's lifeless body. He then sighed and murmured, "My good friend, I've failed to protect you. But don't worry, you won't be alone on your journey to the afterlife. Look, so many people will be going with you. So rest in peace, my friend."
