The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 81

They moved slowly through the dungeons, being extra careful to not make any sound. Lyra walked ahead of Zero to check the hallways ahead, ensuring they were deserted before they went ahead.

“Where should we go?” Lyra whispered as they took the stairs to the upper level.

“There's a storage building not far from here,” Zero told her. “It's rarely frequented, and nobody stays there throughout. I think we can get there without being noticed.”

“Okay,” Lyra told him. “Once we get there, I'll try to locate Beryl.”

They walked through the door at the top of the stairs and came to the ground floor of the building. They had just walked a few steps towards the exit when they heard the sound of laughter coming from one of the inner rooms. They froze in their steps, listening.

“That's the break room,” Zero whispered. “Let's hurry before one of them shows up.”

Nodding, Lyra resumed walking towards the exit. Finally, they made it out of the building and took a path leading towards the storage building Zero had talked about.

“Anna, stay with me, okay?” Zero whispered to Anna.

Lyra looked back at her friend. Anna did not look good. Her face was pale, and her eyes had slid shut. The sooner they found Beryl, the better.

When they got to the building, they found the front door locked with a heavy lock. Zero cursed and looked around. “Shit, I'd not thought about that.”

“Let's go around,” Lyra said, noticing they were standing in an open area. If a guard appeared, they would have nowhere to hide.

They walked around the back of the building, where to their relief, they found a wooden shack attached to the building. It looked neglected, with its door hanging crookedly. Lyra pushed it aside, and it moved with a creaking sound.

Fortunately, the sound did not attract anyone, and they were able to get inside safely. Inside, the shack was cluttered with all sorts of things. Lyra cleared a space on the floor where Zero placed Anna.

“You should transfer some of your energy to her,” Lyra told him. “It'll buy her some time before we find Beryl.”

“I really hope you are right and Beryl did not leave the palace,” Zero said, using his body to support Anna. “I don't understand how any of this could happen. How could the rogue king infiltrate the palace without anyone raising an alarm?”

“When were you put in the dungeon?” Lyra asked him.

“Two days ago,” he told her.

Hearing that, Lyra looked at Anna. Had she been enduring such torture for so long?

“The torture started today,” Zero told her, rightly guessing what she was thinking.

Feeling a bit relieved, Lyra said, “She is strong.”

“I should have brought her back to my pack earlier,” Zero said regrettably. “If I had, none of this would have happened to her.”

“It's not your fault,” Lyra told him. “She was helping with the investigation, so even if you wanted to bring her to your pack, Julian would not have allowed it.”

“I promised to protect her, but I could only watch…” Zero trailed off as his voice thickened with emotion. “Now she is in so much pain, and there's nothing I can do for her.”

Zero had helped heal the injured werewolves at the Red Moon Pack, then he had been imprisoned soon after coming back to the palace. He did not have enough time to recover the energy he had used, and the conditions in the dungeon must have made it even harder to regain his usual strength.

“Don't beat yourself up over this,” Lyra told him. “We’ll get Anna the help she needs, and the rogue king will not get away with this.”
