Daniel's car shot forward at high speed, drifting sharply as he slid into the warehouse. He pushed open the door and stepped out while the vehicle was still in motion. And by the time the car finally rolled to a stop, he was already standing in front of the guards.
"Daniel, we meet again!" Rowan spread his arms wide, as if greeting an old friend, and strode toward Daniel with exaggerated enthusiasm.
The guards stepped aside to make way.
Daniel looked at Rowan coldly. "It seems the lesson I gave you wasn't enough."
Rowan stopped in his tracks, but his expression remained unbothered. "Ah, I like people with a temper like yours. Only those with real power have the right to lose their temper, and my family appreciates people like you the most!
"So, what do you say? Why not join us? Name your price—whatever you want, we can make it happen!"
Rowan spoke as if he were offering Daniel the world.
But Daniel remained indifferent in the face of Rowan's act. "So, all of this is your doing, isn't it?"
"That's right," Rowan admitted without hesitation. "If I want to recruit someone of your caliber, I need to show you what I'm capable of. Otherwise, how could we even have this conversation?"
Rowan spread his hands. "Wouldn't you say so?"
"You're right," Daniel said with a nod, agreeing with him.
A smile spread across Rowan's face. "So, does that mean you're willing to join us?"
Daniel shook his head.
The smile on Rowan's face slowly faded. "It seems you're still playing games with me."
As he spoke, Rowan walked back to his seat, picked up a piece of meat with a tong, and placed it on the grill. After a moment, he picked it back up and chewed it with relish.
"Mmm, this is exactly the taste I'm going for. It takes both the cooking temperature and seasoning to get the perfect taste. Daniel, I've looked into your background. Your family has its share of troubles, but if you join my family, we can protect everything you hold dear. What do you say?"
Rowan looked up at Daniel, and a sharp glint flashed across his eyes.
Daniel shook his head and said, "You and your family aren't worthy."
Rowan picked up a wine glass from the table and took a sip. "You could've taken the easy way out, yet you chose the hard way. You should know that my patience has its limits!"
