Betrayed, But Not Defeated novel Chapter 192

Not only had Jennifer failed to provoke Daniel, but she'd also made a fool of herself!

The mere thought of it filled her with rage. But since she and Zidane were still partners, she hailed a cab and went straight to the hospital.

Zidane sat on the hospital bed and stared blankly into space. He still couldn't wrap his head around what'd just happened. How could something like that have happened to him? He was certain this had to be Daniel's doing!

"You're awake?" Jennifer stepped in. She saw Zidane's dazed expression and halted briefly.

Noticing her reaction, Zidane snapped, "I'm not sick!"

"Then that just means you're useless!" Jennifer's pent-up anger finally exploded. "You knew how important tonight was, and yet you collapsed! What are you if not useless!"

A glint of viciousness flashed through Zidane's eyes. "Watch your mouth! You'd better not think I'd be scared of you!"

"Oh? Go ahead then!" Jennifer sneered. Zidane's threats were nothing compared to Daniel's ruthless remarks. Instead of scaring her, they made her more defiant. "Plenty of people would be eager to work with me to make sure I get what I want!"

"How dare you!" Zidane hadn't expected the once-docile Jennifer to turn on him like this. He gritted his teeth as a strange gleam flickered in his eyes.

Jennifer, who'd been fuming with anger just a moment ago, suddenly froze. A few seconds later, she snapped back to her senses and frowned. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Zidane calmly replied. "After all these years, are you telling me Daniel has never revealed anything?"

"Reveal what? He was nothing but a dog kneeling at my feet! He would never dare go against my words. What could a fool like him possibly know?" Jennifer sneered.

"But it is strange how he suddenly regained his intelligence. I think it has something to do with the genetic longevity formula.
