Betrayed, But Not Defeated novel Chapter 7

Daniel glanced at Ishaan, who was trembling violently. His face was pale with fear.

At that moment, Ishaan finally understood—the man before him was not someone to be trifled with.

"Y-Yes, I understand! I'll make sure Omari hears about Zak's death. As soon as he sets foot in Qranross, I'll notify you immediately," he stammered, nodding repeatedly.

Daniel gave a slight nod of approval.

Beside him, Laila couldn't hold back her emotions. The once dull-witted Daniel now stood tall and fearless. Tears started to well in her eyes.

Daniel then led Laila to an empty private room.

Terrified of causing further offense, Ishaan hurriedly ordered his staff to bring food, drinks, and fresh clothes for Laila.

After changing into a new dress and wiping away her tears, Laila said gratefully, "Mr. Ashcroft, thank you. Without you, I would be dead by now. The Dooly family is ruthless.

"After burning down the headquarters, they began capturing former executives, interrogating them one by one. They're searching for the genetic longevity formula, which was your dad's last major research project."

Daniel's eyes gleamed coldly as he nodded.

She continued, "Mr. Ashcroft, you must be careful. Omari isn't acting alone. He has joined some mysterious organization and commands a group of powerful experts. In just three years, he has become the most influential figure in Legate. His background is formidable!"

"Don't worry. I understand. Rest easy, Ms. Ballard. Once I avenge my father, I'll rebuild the company, and I'll need your help," Daniel said calmly, yet his words carried a weight that stunned Laila.

Just then, a commotion erupted outside the room, accompanied by a familiar voice.

Daniel frowned. "Charlene? That debauched woman got herself in trouble again? Serves her right!"

...

Inside Room B350, a bald man lounged comfortably on a couch. Seven tattooed, muscular men stood behind him.

In front of the bald man stood two women. One, frail and trembling, was Scarlet Guthrie, whose father owed the bald man over 200,000 dollars and had been captured.

Standing beside Scarlet was another woman clad in a long dress accentuating her graceful figure. Her face was stunning and radiant under the dim lights. She was none other than Charlene.

"Mr. Brown, the debt Scarlet's father owes shouldn't be her burden. But I won't argue with you today. I'll pay the money myself. I just hope you'll release my employee," Charlene said firmly.

The bald man, Sergio Brown, laughed heartily, clapping his hands while leering at Charlene. "You're so righteous! I never imagined you would arrive here just because your assistant was in trouble. I like a beautiful and loyal woman like you!"

Charlene frowned and pulled out a bank card. "There's 250,000 dollars in here. This settles the debt. Scarlet, let's go."

But Sergio and his men burst out laughing.

He picked up a glass of wine and sneered. "Ms. Geller, are you looking down on me? In my business, respect matters most. You came here yourself, which shows you respect me. Drink this glass of wine, and we'll be friends. In fact, we can keep in touch more often in the future."

His gaze lingered lustfully on her while the thugs behind him chuckled lecherously.
