Serenina, much like Damian, was something of a queen bee at school. She didn't bully others, but her popularity was undeniable. Girls looked up to her, eager to be part of her inner circle, and the boys? They were like puppies following her around, hoping for just a moment of her attention. Israel was different, though. He was a bookworm, more interested in his studies than social games, even if Serenina's teasing sometimes made him want to throttle her.

Her life had always been cushioned with indulgence, and Israel, caught between the urge to strangle her and the desire to spoil her, contributed to Serenina's unchallenged rule at school. At this point, Israel was still naive to his own feelings, which only added to his irritation with her.

Damian buried his face against her, nodding fiercely. After one last tight hug, he slowly let go and turned to Bernard. "Dad, by the time I return with my degree, you won't stand a chance against me."

Bernard's lips curled into a smirk. "Bear in mind, being too cocky can make you an easy prey. Keep your feet on the ground."

Damian took the advice to heart. Bernard then produced a gold-handled knife engraved with an 'S' and passed it to his son. "You picked this knife at your Naming Ceremony. Now, it's yours for keeps."

Having heard tales of his father's exploits, Damian knew Mr. Law had subdued many with that very knife. Receiving it was a symbol of trust and an expectation to fend for himself. His gratitude was palpable as he accepted the knife with both hands. "Thank you, Father."

With no further words, Bernard gestured towards the car. "Time to go. And don't look back."

Letting go is never easy for parents, but it's a necessary step as children grow and venture out on their own.

Damian, gripping the knife, awkwardly embraced Bernard before quickly sliding back into the car.

Perhaps it was shyness that made him slam the door and roll up the window so hastily, not even giving Eleanor a chance to say more things before Scott drove away.
