Damian flicked off the lights and curled up on his bed, a bundle of angst and regret. He couldn't fathom how, from the day he was born, his father had endured so much pain just to be there for him, to watch him grow up...
As a kid, he'd been so thoughtless, often ignoring his dad. Thinking back on his childhood mischief, Damian slapped himself hard across the face...
After the slap, tears that had never before escaped his eyes now flowed uncontrollably. He buried his face in his pillow, crying like a child fearing abandonment, his body shaking with each sob...
Death had always been an abstract concept to him, but now with its shadow looming so close, Damian realized just how deeply he loved his parents. He spent the entire night poring over medical books, desperately searching for a way to safely remove a chip...
He consulted every piece of literature related to neurosurgery and even reached out to Will Webb, George, and every renowned physician he knew, but to no avail.
No doctor could guarantee the removal of the chip without risking the release of a lethal virus. Helpless, Damian sat in his dark room, the absence of even a sliver of moonlight mirroring his despair...
Damian didn't sleep that night. Seeing his parents the next morning, as naturally affectionate with each other as ever, he felt his eyes well up again. "So, you never argued because you knew you had limited time together and wanted to cherish every moment."
Eleanor, feeling much the same way as Damian but with the composure that comes with age, replied, "Whether time is short or not, cherishing each other is the key to a lasting relationship."
Damian, sitting stiffly at the breakfast table, didn't respond. Instead, he stared at his father, who showed no signs of his imminent death, and declared, "Dad, I want to study medicine."
He was confident that with his intellect and analytical skills, he could figure out how to safely remove the chip. However, Bernard immediately dismissed the idea, "It's too late for that. Don't waste your time."
The man, now unable to suppress his nightly headaches, knew his time was running out and didn't want Damian to squander his on futile endeavors. "Focus on learning how to manage the business."
Damian, with a rueful smile, looked into Bernard's steadfast eyes. "At five, you taught me theory; at ten, self-defense; at fifteen, management skills. You planned everything meticulously, preparing for your departure. But, Dad... have you ever considered that I might not be ready to let go?"

The readers' comments on the novel: A Second Chance At Forever novel (Eleanor and Bernard)
Loved the story, many times caught in so much actually crying with the situation. Wish had more chapters to a better ending....
It's weird that the story went from narrative to slang use. Good story so far though...
