Chapter 549
FAYE
For a few moments after Alexander disappeared into the main house, I remained exactly where I was.
Claim
I stared at the path he had taken, hoping he would suddenly stop, turn around, and decide to approach the situation differently.
He didn’t.
A quiet sigh escaped my lips.
There was no point in standing there any longer.
I adjusted the towel resting around my neck after training and began walking back toward the house.
The moment I stepped into the entrance hall, I began to hear the noise.
Raised voices echoed through the room.
Everyone had stopped what they were doing, their attention fixed on the main entrance.
A few warriors stood nearby, watching cautiously without interfering.
My eyes followed the commotion.
A young woman was struggling against one of the guards who stood firmly in her path.
She couldn’t have been much younger than I was. Her hair had come loose from what had probably been a
neat braid before she rushed over here, and her breathing was uneven, as though she had run the entire
way to the pack house.
“Please!” she exclaimed, trying to move around the guard. “I need to see the Alpha!”
“You can’t go in there,” the guard replied firmly. “Calm yourself down and explain what’s going on first.”
“My father is innocent!” the young woman cried. “You had no right to arrest him! He hasn’t done anything!”
The guard remained where he was, refusing to let her pass.
“I’m asking you one last time to calm down,” he said. “You cannot force your way into the Alpha’s wing.”
“I don’t care!” she shot back. “If nobody will listen to me, then I’ll make the Alpha listen!”
She tried once more to push past him.
The guard caught her by the arm, preventing her from taking another step.
“I said enough.”
“No! You don’t understand,” she protested, trying to pull herself free. “You’re all treating him like a criminal when he hasn’t even done anything!”

The atmosphere inside the hall had become tense enough that even those passing through had stopped
to watch.
I stood there for another second, taking everything in.
The desperation in the young woman’s voice didn’t sound rehearsed.
It sounded real.
She wasn’t shouting because she wanted attention.
She was shouting because she genuinely believed no one was listening.
I sighed.
“That’s enough,” I called out.
My voice wasn’t loud.
It didn’t need to be.
The effect was immediate.
Every conversation at the entrance stopped.
The young woman froze.
The guard immediately released her arm and turned toward me.
Every pair of eyes followed.
I walked forward until I was close enough to see the tears gathering in the young woman’s eyes.
She looked exhausted.
Frightened.
And utterly overwhelmed.
“Come here,” I said calmly.
For a brief moment, neither she nor the guard moved.
Then the guard hesitated.
“But, Luna…” he began.
I turned my attention to him.
“Step aside,” I said.
The guard looked uncertain.
“But, Luna, she’s trying to…”

said step aside,” I repeated, my tone remaining calm but leaving no room for argument.
He immediately lowered his head.
“Yes, Luna,” he replied
Without another word, he moved out of her path.
She looked at me uncertainly for a moment before slowly beginning to walk toward me.
She slowed to a stop a few feet away from me.

Up close, she looked even more flustered than she had from a distance. Her breathing was still uneven
from rushing here, and there was a mixture of fear and determination in her eyes. She looked at me
cautiously for a moment, almost as though she wasn’t entirely sure she had been brought before the right
person.
“Are… are you the Luna?” she asked hesitantly.
I didn’t take offense at the question.
It was obvious from the uncertainty in her voice that she was seeing me for the first time. Not everyone
living within Blood Crescent had met me personally, especially those from the settlements farther away
from the pack house.
“Yes,” I replied with a small nod. “I am.”
A flicker of relief crossed her face.
“Then… then perhaps you can help me,” she said quickly. “You can speak to Alpha Alexander for me.”
I remained silent, allowing her to continue.
“My father has been arrested,” she said, her voice beginning to tremble. “Please… you have to convince Alpha Alexander to release him.”
She swallowed hard before continuing.
“My father is innocent.”
There was no hesitation in her words.
She believed every single one of them.
I studied her quietly for a moment before asking the obvious question.
“Who is your father?” I asked.
She immediately answered with a name.
“My father is… Vincent,” she began. “He was taken away this morning with the other men.”
I didn’t know which one of the men was Vincent, but that was irrelevant for now.

“So your father is one of the men from the border?” I asked.
She nodded eagerly.
“Yes.”
I folded my arms loosely.
“And do you know why your father was arrested in the first place?” I asked calmly. “What exactly is he being accused of that makes you so certain he’s innocent?
The confidence she had carried into the conversation faltered almost instantly.
She blinked.
For the first time since she had walked into the pack house, she seemed to realize she didn’t actually
know the right answer to that question.
Her eyes lowered briefly before she looked back at me.
“I…” she began, then stopped.
She took a slow breath, gathering her thoughts.
“I don’t know everything,” she admitted quietly.
The honesty in that answer surprised me.
She could have pretended otherwise.
Instead, she chose the truth.
“But I know my father,” she continued. “He’s an honest man.”
Her voice steadied as she spoke.
“The only reason he became involved in all of this was because he wanted things to change,” she said.
She shook her head firmly.
“He wasn’t looking for trouble. He wasn’t trying to start a fight… He was desperate,” she said.
