Chapter 551
FAYE
Andrea walked beside me in complete silence.
The panic that had driven her into the pack house had faded
considerably now that she was no longer trying to force her way into
the Alpha’s wing.
Her breathing had steadied, and although she still looked worried, she no longer seemed as though she might burst into tears at any
moment.
I led her away from the busiest part of the house until we reached one of the quieter corridors overlooking the inner gardens.
There were only a few servants passing through occasionally.
It was quiet enough to talk.
I slowed my pace.
“You said you’d tell me everything you know,” I said gently. “Start from the beginning.”
Andrea nodded.
She drew in a slow breath before speaking.
“I don’t know everything that happened at yesterday’s meeting,” Andrea admitted. “My father never discussed those kinds of things with me in detail. He always said political matters should stay among those directly involved.”

She smiled sadly.
“I used to complain about that.”
I remained quiet, allowing her to continue.
She looked ahead as we continued walking.
“Our settlement has been struggling for a long time.”
“In what way?” I asked.
Andrea looked at me.

“We’re on the eastern border,” she explained. “Whenever rogues or outsiders cross into Blood Crescent, they’re usually seen by us first.”
I nodded for her to continue.
“Our warriors are the first to respond ”
“Our people are the first to lose their homes whenever there’s an
attack.”
“If a watchtower needs rebuilding, we usually rebuild it ourselves before help arrives.”
She gave a faint shrug.
“That’s just how it’s always been.”
I frowned slightly.
“And no one reported these problems?”
Andrea let out a quiet laugh.
“They did.”

“My father reported them. The village elders reported them… Jacob submitted requests several times.”
She hesitated.
“At least… that’s what I was told.”
“Then what happened?” I asked.
Andrea sighed.
“Sometimes people came… sometimes they didn’t. Sometimes help
arrived months later.”
She lowered her eyes.
“After a while… people stopped believing anyone was listening.”
I listened without interrupting.
Everything she said sounded sincere
Not rehearsed… not exaggerated.
Simply the perspective of someone who had lived through it.
“My father isn’t an angry man,” Andrea continued. “He actually disliked arguments.”
I glanced at her.
She continued, “He got involved because he was tired,” Andrea answered. “He said if nobody spoke up, nothing would ever change.”
She paused before adding quietly, “He wasn’t the one leading everyone. Jacob was.”

“Tell me about Jacob,” I said.
Andrea thought for a moment.
“He’s… loud.”
A faint, embarrassed smile crossed her face.
“Very loud. He speaks before anyone else gets the chance. He doesn’t
mind challenging people.”
She looked back at me.
“That’s why everyone started looking to him. He wasn’t chosen officially; it just… happened,” she said. “He was chosen because he wasn’t afraid to speak.”
I considered her words carefully.
A man like that knows the power of his voice… he could do more than
speak up.
I didn’t comment on that.
“All this started after years of frustration. People became convinced that waiting wasn’t changing anything. We just want more control over decisions affecting our settlements,” she said.
She sighed.
“My father isn’t interested in becoming a leader. He just believed something needed to change. And speaking to the Alpha seemed like the last peaceful way to make that happen,” she added. “So when Jacob brought it up this time, everyone agreed.”
I looked at her thoughtfully.

She made it sound like it was just a reasonable talk. What I noticed
yesterday when they were talking, and what I witnessed with
Alexander in the cell this morning, didn’t seem like that.
“Yesterday,” I said, “after your father left this pack house… did you see
him again?”
Andrea answered immediately.
“Yes.”
She nodded.
“He came home. He was upset. I could tell the meeting hadn’t gone the way they hoped.”
“What happened after that?” I asked,
“Nothing, really. We had dinner together… he barely spoke. He just looked… disappointed.”
She clasped her hands together.
“As far as I know, he never left the house again.”
She looked at me desperately.
“I know that doesn’t prove anything. But it’s the truth. I don’t know where Jacob went. I don’t know where the others went,” she said. “I
only know my father. And I can’t believe he’d be part of hurting
someone.”
Her voice softened.
Silence settled between us.

She must have been thinking the attack happened after the men left the pack house, or that I meant her father and the others had attacked
me directly.
I wanted to explain and clarify that part, but I realized it wasn’t
necessary.
I studied Andrea for several long moments.
She answered every question directly.
