Chapter 653-
Chapter 553-1
ALEXANDER
By the time we finished dinner, I already had a fair idea of what Faye wanted to discuss.
She had spent the entire meal trying not to look at me white somehow managing to look at me every few
seconds.
Whatever was on her mind had clearly been bothering her for a white.
I led the way to my office, unlocked the door, and stepped inside.
Faye followed behind me.
I walked around the desk and sat down.
Faye remained standing for a moment before taking one of the chairs opposite me.
I rested one forearm on the desk and looked at her expectantly.
“So,” I said, “what’s been occupying your mind all evening?”
Faye met my eyes.
“I heard a few things today,” she said carefully. “And I’d like to know how true they are.”
I leaned back in my chair.
I was curious.
“Go on,” I said. “You already know I won’t lie to you about anything.”
She leaned forward.
Then she began telling me… a lot.
She spoke about the eastern border settlements.
She spoke about years of complaints.
She spoke about neglected roads, damaged watchtowers, delayed assistance, and people who felt abandoned by the capital.
She spoke about repeated petitions that supposedly went unanswered and a community that had gradually lost faith in my leadership.
She never once mentioned who had told her all of this.
I noticed that.
But I didn’t interrupt. I already knew she left that out deliberately… to protect whoever it was.
I listened until she had finished.
Chapter 559-
When slic finally fell silent, I found myself staring at her for a moment.
twas… surprised.
Not by the accusations themselves. I’d heard variations of them before.
What surprised me was Faye.
This wasn’t something she had heard from me.
She had spoken to people-or someone, listened to them, and brought their concerns back.
It meant she was begining to interact with the rest of the pack on her own.
A faint smirk found its way onto my face.
“What?” Faye asked.
I shook my head.
“Nothing.”
I studied her for another second.
“I’m just impressed,” I said.
She looked confused.
“I wasn’t expecting you to know so much about the eastern border. How did you come about it?”
A small smile tugged at her lips. “I suppose I’m learning.”
“You are,” I agreed.
Then my mood became more serious.
“There is some truth in what you’ve been told,” I said.
Faye listened quietly.
“The eastern border has had its share of problems over the years,” I said. “I won’t deny that. Some projects have taken longer than expected. Sometimes responses have been delayed because of logistics.”
I paused.
“But the part about petitions and reports being ignored…”
I slowly shook my head.
“That isn’t true.” It was actually ridiculous.
Faye frowned slightly, but she didn’t say a word.
“I respond to every petition that reaches my office,” I said. “Every single one.”
