A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 106

The remaining three bottles could go to the third aunt. A pulled hip was a serious issue—it was ruining her sex life. They always said women in their fifties were insatiable, so the faster she healed, the faster she could get back to the bedroom.

Iris dialed Quentin's number.

At that exact moment, Quentin was completely overwhelmed. A mob of angry patients was crowding his office, demanding answers.

Patient A: "When is Dr. Shultz coming back? I've been here every day, and she's never here!"

Patient B: "Dr. Shultz did my acupuncture last week, and my arm stopped hurting! I came in on Monday, and you gave me to that Dr. Hale. What is her deal? Now I can't even lift my arm!"

Patient C: "I had back pain, two treatment cycles. Dr. Shultz did five sessions, and it was a miracle. I even brought three coworkers to get treated for their occupational strains. We came in on Monday, Dr. Shultz was gone, and that Hale woman did the needles. It hurt so bad I broke into a cold sweat! She told me it was normal. Today was my second session with her, and I literally couldn't get off the table. A nurse had to physically carry me downstairs!"

Patient D: "Dr. Adams, my father is out of his herbal supplements. He needs Dr. Shultz to check his pulse. Where is she?!"

Quentin was rapidly losing his mind, physically pushing away the chaotic tangle of arms reaching toward him. He forced a strained, pleasant smile onto his face as he texted Iris back.

[Ms. Morgan, I'm currently with patients. Could you give me just a moment?]

To Iris, that sounded like the medication was ready. She was in a fantastic mood.

[How long will you be?]

Quentin: [I'll call you back shortly.]

[Great.]

Paige then brought up a logistical issue. "Mrs. Sutton, it seems like Dr. Shultz is really desperate to keep this job. What happens when Dr. Adams takes over, we fire her, and she just refuses to leave?"

Iris paused. That was actually a valid concern. Given how desperate Winifred was just to put food on the table, she might very well throw a tantrum and refuse to vacate the premises.

She looked at Holden.

The man lowered his voice, speaking smoothly. "I can have my guys throw her in a burlap sack and dump her in the middle of nowhere."

A violent, physical intervention would definitely leave her injured. If she ended up with a broken leg or a severe concussion, it would permanently ruin any chance of her returning to Kingsbridge. Problem solved.

Iris considered the proposal. It was highly effective. A clean sweep. Winifred had zero power, zero money, and nobody to back her up. The police wouldn't even bat an eye. The Sutton family was the third most powerful dynasty in Kingsbridge, second only to the Sheldon family. They essentially ran the city. They could easily make Winifred disappear in a way that looked perfectly legal and completely natural.
