"You're completely unhinged and vulgar. The filthy things coming out of your mouth are polluting my ears. Go see a doctor and stop showing up in front of me with your ugly behavior!"
Winifred hadn't felt much about the absurdities that occurred in Iris's room, but Holden jumping out and saying things like this really struck a nerve.
She clenched her fists. She really wanted to hit him.
Holden, however, just laughed.
"You've called me crazy multiple times, and I admit it. I am crazy. How about... you check my pulse and tell me what exactly turned me into this?"
He rolled up his sleeve and offered his right hand.
Winifred slapped it away. "Get away from me!"
"Heh! Winifred, you've learned to be quite rough after a few years apart."
Unable to bear his harassment, she glared at him.
"Did you corner me just to spout your crazy nonsense?"
"Of course not." The amusement in Holden's eyes faded.
Then it was because he had failed to convince Nelly to fire her today, so he came rushing over to twist the knife.
How ruthless.
For Iris, he wouldn't stop until he drove Winifred to her death.
"Then go ahead, Mr. Lockwood. What price do you want me to pay this time to make up for the harm your precious Iris suffered?"
Holden scoffed. "What else do you even have left to offer?"
His eyes roamed freely over Winifred.
She felt it was a look of utter disdain—disdain for her having "nothing left."
It was as if he were laughing at her, saying, "You've been stripped of everything; you're just an empty shell now."
Her heart suddenly clenched.
It felt like a piece of clothing falling into Holden's hands, being grabbed, twisted, and squeezed out of shape.
It hurt! An unspeakable pain.
Words she shouldn't have said slipped out. "You really do love Iris more than your own life. There's nothing you wouldn't do for her."
Holden burst into laughter.
As long as Holden and Iris existed under the same sky, there would be no room for Winifred to survive.
Between them, it was either her death or theirs.
Since that was the case, she obviously wanted to live.
If she lived, her two babies could live!
If she kept retreating, she would be pushed into the abyss, and her children would be bullied and left to suffer her same fate!
She silently clenched her fists.
Holden's cold voice drifted over from across from her.
"I'm getting engaged on the 15th of next month. You must attend."
As he spoke, an invitation was handed to her.
The cover featured a wedding photo of the two of them.
Winifred loosened her fingers and took the invitation.
At the same time, Holden laughed. "Figured it out? You said you wouldn't attend last time, and I was actually worried. If you don't see Iris in all her glory, she'll be disappointed."
