A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 182

The howling was deafening.

It was the sound of someone utterly terrified of death.

Winifred offered some comforting words. "Hang in there, let me turn on my phone's flashlight and take a look."

She pulled out her phone and checked her storage.

The audio she had recorded in Madeleine's room earlier was safely saved.

Having suffered in the past from "broken security cameras" and lacking evidence, she now made it a point to record every single interaction with the Lockwoods.

She turned on the flashlight and took a quick look.

Then she immediately turned it off, switched to video mode, and held the phone casually, capturing whatever was in the frame without being too obvious.

"It does look like a snake bite. But... Jasmine, you've been working for the Lockwoods for over twenty years. Have you ever seen a snake here? It's fine, it's fine. I'll walk you back and we can get it checked out."

Jasmine suddenly grabbed Winifred by the shoulders. "It takes over half an hour to walk back! I can't wait that long!"

"What did you say?"

With her life on the line, Jasmine had no choice but to confess. "Yesterday, Madeleine had someone buy a batch of banded kraits and release them into this fenced area. The backyard is full of..."

Winifred shook off her hands.

She stood up abruptly, pointing the camera down so it perfectly captured the bitten ankle.

"So, Madeleine set this up to kill me?"

Jasmine clamped her mouth shut, refusing to speak.

"Not going to say anything? Fine, I'm leaving."

Winifred took a single step before Jasmine grabbed her pant leg.

"I'll talk! I'll talk! I'll tell you..." Jasmine sobbed.

She spilled everything.

Winifred secretly recorded it all.

First, she ripped a piece of Jasmine’s jacket and tied it tightly around her calf to act as a tourniquet and slow the venom.

Then, she picked Jasmine up and sprinted back toward the main house.

Madeleine and the other ladies were stunned.

"My God! Why are there snakes in the house?" one of the relatives gasped, seeing Winifred run upstairs to grab her medical kit.

Panicking, she grabbed Coco and fled.

Forget the mint tea.

Everyone scattered back to their own rooms.

Passing Jasmine, who was lying in the garden waiting for an ambulance, they didn't even cast her a glance, just took a wide detour and scurried away.

Madeleine lay there, silver acupuncture needles still sticking out of her neck and head.

After the call, Nelly and her entourage headed back to the hotel, instructing Winifred to grab a cab over once she was done.

Winifred grabbed her suitcase and headed downstairs.

She climbed into the ambulance and accompanied Jasmine to the hospital.

Two young maids went with them, one of them being Heather.

Heather dug through a grocery bag, pulled out a bottle of water, and handed it to Winifred.

"Dr. Shultz, have some water."

"Oh." Unused to someone caring about her needs, Winifred felt a rush of surprise. "Thank you!"

"You're welcome. You've been running up and down all night, you must be exhausted," Heather said, unscrewing the cap for her.

Winifred reached out to take it, but Heather suddenly thought of something.

"Wait just a second."

She dug into the bag again, pulled out a bendy straw, popped it into the bottle, and held it up so Winifred could drink hands-free.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Jasmine immediately told the attending doctor it was a banded krait bite.

Following her lead, the doctor examined the wound and quickly administered the correct antivenin.

The threat to her life was over.
