A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 207

Winifred's official transfer to criminal detention was music to Iris's ears. Sitting elegantly on the living room sofa, legs crossed, she sipped her red wine while waiting for Holden to return from a business dinner.

Tonight, they were going to celebrate. Winifred, who had caused them all so much grief, was finally getting what she deserved. Holden would be thrilled. He had been drowning in guilt over failing his late sister, Rochelle. Using Winifred's life as a sacrifice to avenge Rochelle was the perfect compensation.

As she thought about it... Iris brought the glass to her perfectly painted lips, taking a delicate sip.

Still, it felt like Winifred was getting off easy. Her death was almost too valuable.

For someone who had lived a life of absolute misery, using her blood to appease the eldest daughter of Seaport City's wealthiest family felt like an undeserved honor. Winifred's soul was practically getting a VIP upgrade by being tied to someone of Rochelle's status.

It was annoying. Why did it feel like Winifred was still coming out ahead?

Frowning, Iris set her wine glass down and grabbed her phone, intending to call Madeleine. She wanted to see if there was a way to make Winifred pay without accidentally honoring her.

As the screen unlocked, a breaking news notification popped up.

—#Famous Attorney Jenson Roth Murdered

“What?” Iris gasped, leaping off the sofa and sprinting up the stairs.

Heather, carrying a freshly simmered pot of chicken soup from the kitchen, called out in alarm, "Miss, what's wrong?"

Iris had ordered the soup for Holden, but she completely ignored the maid, tearing down the hallway in a panic.

She shoved open Madeleine's door. The older woman was calmly rolling prayer beads between her fingers.

"But what do we do now?" Iris panicked. "He never even reported back on how things went with Winifred!"

Madeleine continued rolling her beads.

"If he couldn't deliver the news, then so be it. It's fate. The universe doesn't want us worrying over trivial things."

Iris forced a smile, relaxing slightly. "You're right. Even if Mr. Roth hadn't died and went to see her tomorrow, a weed like Winifred couldn't make any waves anyway."

She had zero chance of getting outside help.

Sending a lawyer was just for peace of mind.
