A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 231

The words she had been holding back finally spilled out.

Yvette Lockwood took a delicate sip of her wine, turning her gaze toward the window.

"Maybe people just have a hard time letting go of things they've lost. Even if it's practically worthless, it's still hard to throw away."

Holden Lockwood remained silent.

She glanced at him with a cool smile.

"But you're different. You have Iris now. Losing Winifred isn't a loss at all."

Holden's lips curled slightly. "Are you done?"

Yvette stepped closer, trying to play the part of a caring sister, softening her voice.

"Over the past three years, everyone has seen what you've done for Iris. You took her from an ordinary post-production job at the Morgan Group and put her on the path to stardom. Your love changed her entire life."

"Your engagement party was the talk of the country. Your devotion... even I was moved by it."

"If Winifred doesn't love you, so what? It's no big deal."

"You were done with her a long time ago anyway."

"If she wants to walk away, let her. It saves you the trouble of dealing with her clinging to you."

Yvette placed a hand on his shoulder, her tone gentle. "Iris has blossomed. She's sweet, innocent, and miles better than Winifred. Just focus on her."

"Yeah," Holden nodded.

"With this whole PR scandal keeping her suspended and stuck at home, she's having a hard time adjusting," Yvette continued. "She's the type of girl who needs to lean on someone. She needs your care. See if you can clear your schedule to spend more time with her."

Holden's eyes drifted to the athletic gear he had just bought. "Tomorrow is Saturday. How about I take you both hiking?"

Yvette loved extreme and thrilling sports.

"Sure," Yvette agreed, taking another sip.

Outside, the crisp early winter night sky was dotted with stars dancing around a full moon, the chill settling over the ground.

The next morning, a thin layer of frost coated the garden.

Winifred Shultz playfully flicked the frost off the leaves while waiting for Leland Lockwood to pull the car around. It wasn't even six o'clock yet, the sky still dim. The frost felt icy and soft against her fingertips, almost like snow. She scraped some together, molding it into a tiny, imperfect snowball.

"Get in~" Leland's teasing, affectionate voice called out.

Winifred ran up to the car window. "Close your eyes."

"Why?" Leland's smile stretched from ear to ear.

"Just close them!"
