By the time he finally learned to appreciate her, she was already slipping through his fingers like sand.
He realized he was losing his grip on the girl who used to hang onto his every word.
They hadn't seen each other in so long, and his longing had aged like fine wine.
But Winifred... just blamed the bad signal, pretended she didn't hear him, and hung up.
Quentin stared at the disconnected screen, panic clawing at his chest.
The anxiety was a warning siren—proof that he actually cared about her. He had finally placed her in his heart, but she wasn't responding to his feelings.
He was terrified of making a mistake and pushing her further away. He dreaded losing his chance to win her back completely.
As the stress gnawed at him, he truly understood how essential Winifred was to his life.
He grabbed his car keys, ready to go find her right then.
Suddenly, his phone rang again.
It was a video call from Iris Morgan.
Quentin sat back down, tossed the keys aside, and mounted his phone on a tripod to answer.
"Good evening, Dr. Adams!" Iris smiled brightly. She was calling from home, sitting in front of a massive television screen.
"Hello, Ms. Morgan," Quentin greeted her professionally.
Iris laughed. "Are you teasing me?"
"Not at all. Iris-Adams Biopharma has officially launched. You're the head of the company now. You're the CEO."
It was true.
Holden had returned home today and immediately held a video conference. The acquisition contracts for the old pharmaceutical plants would be signed next week. Iris's position as CEO of Iris-Adams Biopharma was locked in.
"Dr. Adams, I've had some downtime at home recently—I'm sure you know why. I called because I need you to prep a hundred jars of the Adams Wellness Clinic beauty cream. I want to send them to some of my top fans and do some beauty influencer content in my spare time. It'll be great early marketing for Iris-Adams."
It was a fantastic opportunity.
