"Get out of the way!" Winifred swung her arm, shoving Huxley Sheldon aside with enough force to clear the path to the delivery room. An orderly quickly pushed a wheelchair inside.
Huxley immediately bounced back. "Quinn, what the hell are you trying to pull?" he roared toward the open doors. "Get out here right now! Don't you dare go near Rhea. She's terrified because of you, and now both she and the baby are in danger!"
Winifred grabbed him again and hurled him out of the way just as the delivery room doors slid shut.
Furious, Huxley glared at her. "Why do you keep stopping me?"
"Because you're absolute trash!" Winifred snapped.
He looked genuinely shocked, as if he couldn't believe a mutual friend was turning on him. "Are you cursing at me?"
At this point, there was no reason for Huxley to know Quinn had been pregnant with his child. A clean break was best. Winifred ignored him.
Frantic with worry for Rhea, Huxley began pacing like a caged animal. "Quinn lost her mind tonight! She terrified Rhea so badly she started having premature contractions! Do you have any idea how worried I am? I rushed her here, and the doctor barely got her stabilized on the fetal monitor. And what does Quinn do? She targets her again! She's so bitter, so jealous, and completely unhinged!"
Do all men trample on the women they once loved the moment the feelings fade?
Winifred shot him a glacial look. "You're still blaming Quinn? Why don't you take a hard look at your own actions?"
"What did I do?" he fired back defensively. "Tell me."
"She lashed out because your behavior crossed a line!" Winifred's voice rose. "You transferred your affections back to your ex. You held her, you fed her, you were practically making eyes at each other right in front of her—"
"Enough!" Huxley snarled. "Keep Rhea out of this. She's the victim here. She's pregnant, fragile, and can't take this kind of stress. And as for me, what's wrong with taking care of her out of respect for our past? I didn't abandon Quinn, and I didn't cheat. Why is she acting like I brought a mistress home? She couldn't show even an ounce of grace!"
He was stubborn, entirely unreasonable, and impossible to communicate with.
Just then, one of the delivery room doors opened. Before they could even see who was stepping out, a soft sobbing drifted into the hallway.
Huxley reacted like a man possessed, lunging forward and squeezing through the gap to catch Rhea, who was crying near the entrance.
