A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 290

Overwhelmed with emotion, Declan Sutton raised his right hand and made a booming vow. "I swear to give Carys the grandest wedding imaginable! I will give her all the dignity and respect she deserves! If anyone in the Sutton family dares to stand in our way, I will cut ties with them entirely!"

He lowered his hand and gently cupped Quinn's chin, his face flushed red as he doubled down on his promise. "In this lifetime, I will never let anyone hurt a single hair on your head! You won't have to lift a finger once we're married. Your only job will be helping me spend money—shop, play, and eat to your heart's content."

He gently patted her stomach. "Though, I might need you to work a little bit hard to give us a son of our own."

Tears welled up in Quinn's eyes. "Declan!"

"Yes? What is it, baby?"

"Call me Quinn."

"Why did you change your name? Do you not like Carys anymore? It's such a pretty name."

Quinn let out a tired sigh.

Declan instantly folded. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! My mistake. I talk too much. I shouldn't argue with my wife's orders. Quinn it is. Does that work?"

"Yeah." Quinn gave him a soft look. "You should go back now. It's late."

"Okay. But I'm staying nearby. I'll come pick you up as soon as I wake up tomorrow."

"Come later. I'll probably sleep in."

"You should. You need your rest." Declan gently touched her stomach again. "I'll stay up tonight and keep watch, then sleep when the sun comes up. I'll come find you around three in the afternoon."

"You're an idiot."

Quinn offered a bitter smile. "Winifred, after everything we've been through, I think you'd understand this better than anyone. Even when we give a man our entire heart, it doesn't guarantee a lasting marriage. A woman's love for a man is not the foundation of a stable relationship. I've thought about it. Instead of marrying a man I deeply love who doesn't cherish me, I'd rather marry a man who deeply loves me. Even if the marriage eventually falls apart, I won't lose out, and I won't get hurt—because he's the one giving his all. At the very least, I get to be valued and protected."

Winifred completely agreed with the sentiment.

But to her, there was still another option.

A woman didn't need to get married at all.

She could choose not to marry.

She could be strong, independent, free from anyone's control, and live exactly the life she was meant to live.
