A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 384

Winifred shifted her weight, deliberately blocking the doorway and cutting off Quentin's view of the room. It was a clear, unspoken rejection.

But Quentin maintained a perfectly calm smile. "Are you still mad at me?"

He tilted his head, trying to find another angle to peer inside.

In his mind, his parents had crossed a line by stealing the kids, sure. But she had already called the cops, and his parents were sitting in jail. They were elderly and had been taught a lesson. They were facing the consequences of their actions. Wasn't that enough?

The kids hadn't even been sent back to Holden in Seaport City. That was a stroke of luck. And getting these surgeries out of the way was practically a blessing in disguise. Both children had been born prematurely, struggling with congenital defects since they were in the womb. Winifred had done everything medically possible to keep them alive. They had been born dangerously underweight, plagued with hernia and heart issues since their first month.

This whole unexpected hospital trip had forced her hand into finally curing their underlying conditions. Looking at the big picture, it wasn't the end of the world. They were still family, and family needed to keep the peace.

Winifred reached behind her and pulled the hospital door shut until it clicked.

Quentin's line of sight was completely blocked. He sighed. "You're still holding a grudge. You won't even let me see them, but you know they miss me. It's been a long time since they've seen their father."

He held up the Barbie playset, shaking it gently. It was Annelise's absolute favorite. She was recovering from surgery, feeling weak and fragile—she needed him right now. If he walked in with gifts, she would be absolutely thrilled to see her dad.

Staring at his arrogant, self-assured smile, Winifred spoke with absolute finality. "My children do not have a father like you."

"Winifred," Quentin's face tightened.

Why wasn't she listening to him? She was being utterly uncooperative. She was cold, argumentative, and disrespectful. If he didn't know she was under immense stress from managing two post-op children, he would have seriously lost his temper.

The door creaked open just a fraction. Quinn peeked out. "Winifred, you have a phone call."

"I'll be right there," she replied.

She turned her icy gaze back to Quentin. "Your parents are monsters. I am going to pursue every legal avenue available to me. Do not come here expecting me to settle or reconcile. I will never forgive them."
