A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 58

The pharmacist handed the prepped medicine bags through the window. Leaning on the counter with her face pressed close to the glass, she whispered gleefully, "Your boyfriend is ridiculously gorgeous! Oh my gosh! I told you, Dr. Shultz, you deserve all the youth, beauty, and happiness in the world!"

"No, it's a misunderstanding."

"Even if he isn't your boyfriend yet, it doesn't matter! Go after him! Lock it down!" The pharmacist pumped her fist in a "go get 'em" gesture.

A man that top-tier would cause a riot on the streets. She needed to claim him.

Winifred's private relationship with Quentin Adams was strictly limited to the old residential neighborhood they used to live in, mostly just an excuse to fend off the nosy, retired neighbors who had too much time on their hands. Her clinic colleagues knew absolutely nothing about it. She had never brought Seth and Annelise to the clinic, either.

Everyone simply assumed Winifred and Quentin had studied under the same mentor, and when Quentin opened his own practice, he did his junior colleague a solid by hiring her. No one knew anything about Winifred's personal life.

But tonight, bombshell news had dropped—Dr. Shultz had a boyfriend, and he was breathtakingly handsome and unmistakably wealthy.

Upon returning to the Lockwood Mansion, Winifred immediately went to check on the baby. She personally applied the holistic herbal patches to the soles of the baby's feet to draw out the fever. The nanny was in the nursery as well, and with Wyatt and Fabiola present, Winifred gave them a detailed breakdown of dietary adjustments for the coming days.

Once she was finished, Leland smoothly stepped in. "Dr. Shultz, let's talk."

Just outside the nursery, at the end of the hallway, was a small garden. The night sky was clear, the stars were twinkling, and the moon was full and bright.

A perfect moonlit night. An ideal setting for romance.

But Winifred didn't agree right away. "I need to go see Mrs. Lockwood now."

Leland stepped aside, clearing the path, and gestured for her to go ahead.

She hadn't taken more than a few steps before Leland called out from behind, "Dr. Shultz."

"Yes?"

"I'll wait for you."

Winifred didn't look back.

[Alright then. To make sure there isn't another lifelong bachelor in this family, I'll do what I can.]

With Alistair remaining notoriously single in the main branch, the Lockwood family had already lost enough face. Whenever Sylvia attended social events, the absolute last thing she wanted was for people to ask about her perpetually single eldest son.

When Winifred walked in, Sylvia welcomed her with overwhelming enthusiasm. She grabbed her hand, pulled her over to the sofa, and spoke with deep, grandmotherly affection. "Darling, earlier tonight you mentioned leaving the Sutton family. Are you quitting?"

Winifred was straightforward. "The Suttons are arranging a marriage with the Morgan family in Seaport City. Mrs. Sutton is very fond of the Morgan heiress, Iris. Unfortunately, Ms. Morgan and I have some history. Mrs. Sutton has taken her side, and if my instincts are right, I am no longer welcome there."

Sylvia nodded. She believed every word.

When her friend Nelly had first brought up the marriage between the Suttons and the Seaport City Morgans, Sylvia had voiced her disapproval. She had explicitly said it was a terrible idea—Owen Morgan already had a wife and children. For Yvonne Sutton, an unmarried heiress, to jump in as the other woman was incredibly degrading. But Nelly had insisted her granddaughter was obsessed with Owen, so her hands were tied.

Sylvia had been furious. If a child's moral compass regarding marriage was broken, a parent shouldn't just coddle them with "but she loves him." That was blind favoritism and pure foolishness.

"Perfect timing, then. You can come work for the Lockwood family," Sylvia declared firmly.
