A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 63

Winifred immediately refused.

Seth and Annelise had the day off; they were not going in.

The voice on the phone suddenly switched to Iris, her tone sharp and aggressive.

[Listen, dodging the issue and hiding your kids when they've done something wrong isn't exactly great for their psychological development, is it?]

Worried Iris might recognize her voice, Winifred shoved the phone at Celeste.

Celeste planted a hand on her hip. [We have a family emergency and we cleared it with Ms. Miller. Stop making wild accusations.]

[Hold on, my husband will speak with you.]

Winifred had the phone on speaker. At the word "husband," her ears twitched.

Holden's voice grated through the speaker.

[Listen, running away doesn't solve anything. The teacher mentioned you live close to the school. I suggest you come over right now so we can sort this out face-to-face.]

Celeste didn't back down. [Whatever you have to say, say it over the phone.]

[Seth owes my Jordyn an apology.] Holden stated his demand clearly. [I expect him to apologize to her in person.]

Celeste was ready to explode. [You guys started it! Jordyn needs to apologize to Annelise first!]

Iris's voice chimed back in. [Can we be reasonable here? Your child hit someone. He's entirely at fault.]

Celeste scoffed. [Your kid pulled Annelise's hair and made her cry. Is that not her fault?]

Iris replied smoothly. [Jordyn already explained that. She didn't pull anything, she just gently touched her hair.]

[She touched it gently and made her cry? Are you kidding me?]

Iris sighed condescendingly. [Your daughter is just overly sensitive. It's completely normal for kids to play around. Honestly, you should work on building your kid's resilience instead of raising a snowflake.]

[Your kid is the snowflake! She's eight months older and half a head taller than Seth. His little hands are as soft as cotton, and he barely brushed her face. Look at the massive fuss she's making, dragging her parents into it!]

The phone was handed back to Holden.

[Since you refuse to be civil, we'll handle this officially. I'm calling the police. I'll be at your front door with the authorities in twenty minutes.]

No!

Winifred frantically waved her hands, gesturing wildly at Celeste.

The kindergarten had their home address on file. If Holden showed up there, Quentin's parents would almost certainly sell them out and throw them to the wolves.

Celeste ground her teeth.

[Oh, I see! Bullying us because you think we don't have connections, huh? Fine! Wait right there. I'll have someone bring the kids over, and we'll see if you dare lay a finger on them.]

It was her first time doing makeup, and it was a spectacular disaster.

Winifred ordered a rideshare from the hotel.

They all piled in and headed toward the kindergarten.

Winifred stayed in the car.

Celeste stood across the street from the school gates as backup.

Jayce marched straight in, leading the kids directly to the director's office.

When they walked in, Holden and Iris were seated high and mighty, sipping tea. They stood up as they entered, holding Jordyn.

The director, Ms. Albright, immediately grabbed Seth by the hand, then reached for Annelise, lining the two siblings up shoulder-to-shoulder and pushing them forward.

Keeping a firm grip on their tiny shoulders, she introduced them with a nervous stammer.

"Mr. Lockwood, Ms. Morgan, these are Seth and Annelise."

Seth tilted his little head up, fiercely meeting his opponent's gaze.

His enemy was a tall, imposing man.

He was incredibly handsome and radiated a cold, intimidating aura.
