A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 66

Seth scooped her up into a hug. "Don't be scared. I'll protect you."

But his bravery was forced. He was trembling, and Annelise could feel it.

Seth was so small, his short arms barely wrapping around her waist, her little legs dangling toward the floor. They didn't dare move, terrified they would both fall over.

Annelise's tears wet her eyelashes. Blurring her vision, it almost looked like Holden was about to cry too.

She blinked hard, forcing back the tears. Looking closer, Holden's face was dark and brooding; he was definitely plotting something mean.

Just then, Jordyn cupped Holden's face. "Uncle Holden! It's because Annelise stole the role of Snow White that I didn't get to be a princess! You have to punish her!"

Annelise was terrified. She shrank back, burying her face into her brother's shoulder.

Holden was so tall, and his hands were huge. One slap from him and she would be squashed flat.

But to her surprise, she heard Holden laugh.

Confused, she turned her head just in time to see Holden gently holding Jordyn's chubby little hand, teasing her.

"But I think... that little girl is Snow White."

Jordyn's lip trembled, and she burst into loud sobs.

"Uncle Holden! You're not helping me! Waaah!"

"Don't cry. We're family. Of course I'm on your side. What I meant is, there's a much better role for you to play. You don't need to be Snow White."

Waaaah!

Jordyn just cried louder.

Holden wiped her tears with a look of absolute indulgence, kissing her chubby cheek and coaxing her softly.

"How about I take you to King's Fairy Tale Dining for dinner tonight? We can play in the castle afterward, and you can be the King. Does that sound good?"

"Okay."

Jordyn rested her head on his shoulder, shaking it proudly at Annelise. "I'm the King! That means I'm better than you, hmph!"

Holden patted her back.

"There's a good girl. No more crying."

"I'll talk to the director and just buy this kindergarten for you. We'll run it under your name, and you can do whatever you want. How about that?"

With that, he set Annelise down and grabbed her hand.

"Don't cry, Annie. I'll take you to go find Dad."

At the mention of their dad, Annelise's face lit up.

She hadn't seen Quentin in twenty days.

She missed him terribly.

She had called him "Dad" since she first learned to speak; to her, he was her dearest family.

"Okay," she smiled brightly.

Her rosy lips parted, revealing a pair of tiny dimples on her chubby cheeks. The dimples were shallow and sweet, making her look incredibly adorable.

Seth held her hand and turned to walk out. He didn't bother calling Jayce or saying goodbye to the teachers.

But as they reached the office door, Holden's voice stopped them.

"Wait!"
