"You're right. He must be deeply in love," the other cleaner whispered loudly.
"Look how happy he is! He’s probably rushing to the altar."
"Good for him. I hope I get to see a little Lockwood in diapers before I retire."
"She's gorgeous. Such a sweet face, too."
"She’s a lucky girl. His family is wonderful. His parents are so kind. If she marries him, they’ll absolutely spoil her."
The elevator was finally empty, but the four of them standing nearby had lost all desire to get in.
Leland's two assistants rushed forward, clearing the path. "Excuse us. Please step aside. Make way."
Leland walked forward, holding the tray of coffee in one hand and Winifred’s hand in the other. He looked every bit the powerful CEO escorting his beautiful lover.
But the group of four, raised on constant flattery and privilege, had never experienced the humiliation of being actively shooed out of the way. They just stood there, stunned.
Iris was at the front. An assistant lightly tapped her arm. "Please step aside."
What? Iris's eyes widened in disbelief. Everywhere she went, her bodyguards were the ones pushing people away. No one ever pushed her aside! The assistant had to be blind not to recognize her.
"Please move, you're blocking the way," the assistant repeated firmly.
Humiliated, Iris could only grit her teeth as she watched Winifred glide past in absolute triumph. She was entirely powerless to stop it.
As they stepped into the elevator, Leland handed the coffee to his assistant, freeing up his hand. "Here, let me hold the flowers for you."
Winifred handed them over.
As the doors prepared to close, Leland asked softly, "You don't like being the center of attention, do you?"
Winifred turned around, locking eyes with Iris one last time. "Not really."
Kian sighed heavily. "What do we do now, Holden?"
They had an entire agenda planned for this meeting. Kian wanted to discuss supplements, Holden wanted to pitch a software park, and Preston was looking into a private club franchise.
But Winifred had completely derailed their plans. She had brazenly followed Leland up to his office. With her manipulative tactics, she would undoubtedly monopolize his time and purposely delay their meeting.
Holden remained silent, his gaze fixed on the executive elevator. For a brief second, Kian thought he saw a flash of genuine anguish and moisture in Holden's eyes.
But Iris quickly shattered that illusion. She looked up at him softly. "Holden?"
Holden instantly snapped back to reality. "I'm here."
Iris looked relieved. "Are we still going up?"
Holden nodded grimly. "Yes." He took the lead, stepping into the standard elevator.
