Shirley tossed out her warning, then pulled open the door and walked out without looking back.
Catherine glanced at the clock. Things with Nestor had ended badly, but for Lawrence’s sake, she needed to check up on the company. She walked over to the window, phone in hand, and called Nestor.
She heard a faint cough on the other end. “Hello?”
“Dad,” Catherine greeted, her voice a little uncertain.
“If you have something to say, just say it.” Nestor’s tone was still cold, clearly holding onto his anger.
“Is everything okay with the company?” Catherine got straight to the point.
“Did Lawrence mention the company is about to make some changes?” Nestor’s voice softened a bit.
“Changes?” Catherine was taken aback. Lawrence had only been there for two days. Was he already shaking things up?
“He didn’t tell you?” Nestor sounded almost surprised. “Makes sense. He’s probably working late right now. We decided to end our partnership with The James Group. Today, we signed a five-year contract with Nexus Dynamics. From now on, we’ll be their outsourcing partner.”
Catherine’s mouth fell open. “Dad, you actually landed the Nexus Dynamics contract?”
“What, did you think your old man couldn’t pull it off?” Nestor said, but there was pride in his voice. “Lawrence helped a lot. He gave us some great advice, and Nexus Dynamics was really sincere.”
Catherine blinked, hardly able to believe what she was hearing. In just two days, Lawrence had managed to turn things around and even change Nestor’s opinion?
“Dad, so… you don’t hate him anymore?” Catherine asked quietly, biting her lip and testing the waters.
“I’m getting old, and I need someone capable,” Nestor finally said. “For now, Lawrence is… good enough.”
Catherine couldn’t help but smile. “I told you, he’s not just some average guy.”
