After the Fall A Leap into a Stranger's Arms novel Chapter 149

Lawrence showed up in a dark shirt and casual pants, standing tall and straight. His features were striking and a little intimidating, the kind of good looks that made people stare even if they were too nervous to come close. Even in the middle of a busy crowd, he had this quiet confidence that pulled every eye in his direction.

He stood there, calm and collected, eyes fixed on the exit like he was waiting for someone who meant the world to him.

Catherine spotted him right away as she walked out. Her whole face lit up in a bright, genuine smile. She picked up her pace, and Lawrence, with his long stride, started moving toward her too.

“Lawrence,” she called, her voice bubbling with excitement she couldn’t hide.

In just a few steps, he was right there in front of her, taking her suitcase from her hand without missing a beat. He slid his arm around her shoulders, so natural and effortless. “Are you tired?”

“Not really,” Catherine said, tilting her face up to him, a little worried. “Did you wait long?”

“I just got here,” Lawrence said, a small smile curving his lips.

She looked up at him, eyes soft. Lawrence noticed a few strands of hair by her ear and gently smoothed them back.

Right then, Shirley walked out and caught the whole scene. She froze for a moment, then felt a sharp pang of jealousy twist inside her.

Forget about Lawrence’s lack of money. His looks and the way he carried himself could win over almost anyone.

Shirley found herself staring, trying to figure out where that calm confidence came from. It was like he had nothing to prove, and that made him even harder to ignore.

She watched as Lawrence picked up Catherine’s laptop bag and suitcase, then took her hand as they headed for the exit.

The jealousy only got worse. Sure, Catherine had married a man without money, but she couldn’t deny how good he was to her.

Still, Shirley thought, what else could a poor guy offer besides being gentle and patient? That was all well and good for now, but once they had kids, life would get harder. The cracks would start to show.

When Catherine had to take a break from work or got pushed out of the tech world, would Lawrence still treat her with this kind of patience? Or would he start resenting her for not living up to his expectations?
