Catherine slipped the bracelet out of its pouch, the jade cool and smooth against her skin. “I finally did it. I kept my promise to Mom and brought it back.”
Lawrence ruffled her hair, his touch gentle. “Keep it safe.”
She grinned. “I will. But first, there’s someone I need to thank.”
She reached for her phone, ready to text the boss of Nexus Dynamics, but before she could, Lawrence’s hand covered hers.
“Do it at lunchtime. The CEO’s probably slammed right now.”
Catherine paused, blinking. He was right. The CEO was probably in some important meeting. She set her phone aside, missing the quiet sigh of relief Lawrence let out beside her.
Right then, Lawrence’s phone buzzed. He checked the screen and stood up. “I have to go. Work hard, but don’t push yourself too much.”
“Got it. I will.” She nodded, watching him walk away.

In one of the private rooms at an upscale club, Shirley lounged on a sofa while ten striking women walked in, each one more stunning than the last. She looked them over, eyes lingering on a girl who looked both fresh and lively, her beauty radiating without effort. Shirley pointed her out. “You stay. The rest can leave.”
The others filed out. The chosen girl stepped forward, her smile playful. “Thank you for picking me. What do you need?”
