After the Fall A Leap into a Stranger's Arms novel Chapter 195

Waldo stared at the name, feeling his breath catch. Lawrence—he was actually one of the original employees at Nexus Dynamics.

The other three names on the list? Waldo knew them by reputation. They were big shots now, running Nexus Dynamics’ global branches as CEOs or CTOs. All of them were legends at the company, also part of the original team. But Lawrence was different. He was still just a consultant, barely making waves.

It looked like Lawrence just got lucky with his first job at Nexus Dynamics. Honestly, what more could you expect from a guy fresh out of the military?

Waldo’s eyes lingered on the four names. Was the real founder of Nexus Dynamics one of the other three?

He zeroed in on the name Nicol, second on the list. Nicol was famous in the tech world, known for his strategies and moves in the industry. He was one of the core reasons Nexus Dynamics blew up so quickly.

Could Nicol be the founder? Waldo frowned, not entirely sure. Still, he couldn’t rule it out, since Nicol was definitely one of the co-founders.

But his gaze kept drifting back to Lawrence, sitting right there at the top of the list.

Lawrence didn’t even have a proper college degree. Sure, he had Neotech University listed next to his name, but how could he have gone to school while serving in the military? Maybe he got in through connections or some kind of correspondence course.

In the end, he was just a guy who lucked out, picking up some basic skills in the army, riding that wave into Nexus Dynamics at just the right moment. The truth? He was just another regular employee who never really achieved anything special.

Otherwise, after eight years, why had the others climbed to the top—CTO, global operations chief—while Lawrence was still just a forgettable consultant? He lived in a shabby little house, fixed old cars, and worked the production line. That was all the proof Waldo needed.

His fists clenched tighter the more he thought about it. The deeper he dug, the more furious he became. It felt like a weight on his chest. How could a guy so mediocre and talentless steal his fiancée?

He opened the video Shirley had sent him again. In it, Catherine had her arms around Lawrence’s neck, pulling him in for a kiss, looking like she couldn’t wait to be close to him.

If Lawrence thought he could use The Blair Group as a stepping stone, he was kidding himself. Waldo would crush every opportunity, leave him stranded at the edge of the tech world, forced to scrape by on his outdated skills.

Lawrence would have nothing left. Only when he was completely ruined would Catherine finally see him for who he truly was.

And when she came back, Waldo would be there, waiting for her, ready to take her in.

Right now, Waldo’s jealousy and anger coiled inside him like a snake, eating away at his sanity. He downed his drink in one gulp, his eyes burning with cold, ruthless resolve.

He couldn’t stand the thought of Lawrence having Catherine. He couldn’t stand being the fool, raging helplessly in the shadows.
