After the Fall A Leap into a Stranger's Arms novel Chapter 237

Inside the CEO’s office at Nexus Dynamics, Lawrence held his phone between his fingers and pressed play on the audio file.

He listened all the way through. Even though he could tell right away that it was fake, some kind of edited recording, he still felt anger twist in his chest.

His Catherine was sharp, independent, and never afraid to show where she stood. There was no way she would ever beg or lower herself for a man who once walked away from her.

Waldo’s little stunt was almost laughably pathetic.

No one was going to take his wife from him.

He didn’t even need to overthink it or bother replying. Waldo was already stuck in his web, and sooner or later, Lawrence would settle the score.

Meanwhile, Waldo waited for Lawrence to lash out. He pictured Lawrence losing his mind, yelling and making a scene. He imagined Lawrence storming over to Catherine with the recording, demanding answers. He was even hoping Catherine would call to curse him out. If he could drive a wedge between them, that would be a win.

But his phone stayed silent for over ten minutes. Not a single call. Not a single message.

The text he sent Lawrence just disappeared into thin air.

What was happening? Was Lawrence not happy with the offer? Or was he fighting with Catherine right now?

Half an hour later, Waldo looked at the time. It was well past midnight and still, nothing.

“Damn it, Lawrence. Are you even a man?” Waldo snapped, grabbing his phone and calling Lawrence’s private number.

It rang a few times before Lawrence answered.

“Listen, Waldo.” Lawrence’s voice was cold, certain. “Catherine is the most important person in my life. She’s priceless. No amount of money could ever compare.”

Waldo thought he had it all figured out. He scoffed. “The only reason you can say that is because you’ve won Nestor over. If I wanted your job, I could take it.”

“Go ahead.” Lawrence’s tone turned icy, sharp enough to cut. “If you ever try to smear Catherine’s name with another fake recording, I won’t hesitate to get the law involved.”

“You threatening me?” Waldo scoffed, unfazed. “Lawrence, do you know who you’re talking to? My legal team would eat you alive. You think you can touch me?”

“Who I am doesn’t matter. Feel free to try,” Lawrence said. Then he hung up.

Waldo stared at his phone, his knuckles white with anger. How dare that useless nobody threaten him?
